Bilge heater (12v)

I think you are mistaken that these units run off of 12v.

Really thought I read that about the 12v.
Guess not.
But, other than that?

I like the idea of the dual fans and the units come with a quick release mounting bracket. They seem fairly substantially built. I'll report back in the spring.

Yeah, must have been a typo (12v instead of 120v) But, I ordered one anyway.

Are they ABYC approved? Honestly didn't read or look for it. I have an Xtreme. It is and my insurance company knows it's in the bilge. I've told the in writing, "Here are the ABYC Certs. If you don't want it there, you tell me to remove it." To date, no problems.

I re-read the advert. I didn't see USCG anywhere? Help me out please. It's a great price and I'd invest in one if my Xtreme crapped out or recommend to friends, but I just didn't see USCG.

TIA

Anyone ever do the math of the square footage of a twin (300DA in my case)
The mfg. says 80' cubic feet.

LxWxH. Break up the areas into blocks or rectangles. For bilge blowers, you then subtract the amount of space that the various equipment occupies. I'm not sure if you do that in this case.

What I wondered about was the 400 watts and the cubic footage.. The Extreme I had In my 370EC was the 450 watt one and it did fine for years. I'm putting in 2 of the 400 watt for my 330 with a smaller cubic foot ER. Isnt it the wattage that drives the heating capability? I'll be using remote monitoring for the temps during the winter as I did with the 370. Even with sub zero temps for days that 450 watts never let the temp get below 35 in the lowest, furthest from the heating source spot. Realize that speakerdude and myself are in NE oklahoma and NW Arkansas.

do you mind sharing what equipment you use to monitor the engine room temp remotely?

Thanks.

ugh sorry Cliff. I should not have used that term. ( multi tasking as I was typing that ) I simply drop a probe to the bottom of the engine room that is connected (wired) to a temperature monitor that I place at the helm. It keeps track of the minimum and maximums. There is a thread tho that has some suggestions. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...mometer-to-monitor-your-boat?highlight=Remote

Says right in the description:120V, 400W, 2 year warranty
It's not 12V.

I use a simple indoor/outdoor wireless thermometer like they sell at The big box stores. Runs off AA's or AAA's. I keep the "outside" unit in the eng. compartment and the other in the cabin. Keeps up with max and mins on each unit.
