I am looking for a few suggestions on how everyone stores their Isenglas. I have an 08 340, I would like to store it out of the way, but also carefully so that it does not get damaged. I am all ears!

Thanks

Brett

There have been past posts about this. My suggestion to you would be to make sure you treat it regularly with Plexus to seal and protect it. You can fabricate nice soft covers out of flannel sheets and store it in those whan the canvas is down, but it won't help if it is not cleaned and protected regularly. The Plexus sheds water and dirt. My last boat isenglas got pitted and fogged on the edges from not being protected. I did clean it regularly with boat soap and microfiber, but that was not enough.

Laying flat (under the guest room beds), with towels in between seems to work well. They are relatively out of the way and it keeps the creases from showing up. I make sure they are clean before I store them so everything is ready to go when it's time to button up for the colder days.

thanks for the reply. i guess i also want to know if i can roll them up so i can stow them away without being in the way while we are using the cabin area.

Yes, you can roll them. Roll loosely and in a way that the zippers don't touch the glas. They have to be perfectly clean and dry first. Clean with Plexus before rolling. Some roll with flannel between.

Removing the isinglass curtains every time I took the boat out was just too much work, so I had U-zips installed on all front isinglass curtains. Now its simple and I don't have to worry about storing the curtains down in the cabin. The aft canvas section I roll up and store in the aft cabin on top of the bench. I would highly recommend this.

During boating season, we store our canvas onboard as we will usually put it up at night if we are staying on the boat. We roll the canvas between sheet with a cut down swim noodle in the center to keep the canvas from creasing. All the cavas rolled up fits down in the center floor locker in the cabin.

Off season, I took an idea from Skip and mounted 2x4's with snaps along the ceiling of our basement storage room. The canvas hangs from the snaps vertically.

As others have said, th canvas needs to be clean before storage. I use Plexus on the eisenglass, and the Imar stuff on the strataglass.

Hello Brett, how is the new boat?

As far as the Isinglass is concerned I take each piece as I remove it and lay it flat between cloth sheets for each piece as I take them off. After all are off I will then roll them up together. I have a very large storage area under the floor in the cabin and I will keep them there if going on long trips. If I just going out for the day I just leave them in the aft cabin. Just remember to place a sheet in between each piece to keep them from getting scratched.

BTW, did you get digital TV’s?

I do the same. I use soft cotton sheets that were cut roughly the to the size of the plastic panels. When rolled up, they go on the shelf in the cabin next to the v-berth.

In the off-season they get laid flat in the attic on a plywood board, interleaved with the same soft cotton sheets.

Use Plexus and you can use a "noodle" to help roll-up the glass.
Formula supplies "noodles" and Sunbrella bags for storing the glass.

Obviously, as mentioned, start with them clean.

I roll them, also. I store in the original canvas bag (Sea Ray provides these, as well:smt001). But, I don't use a noodle. I use a 4" piece of PVC drain pipe (has holes in it and is lighter - and cheaper - than Schedule 40). I use sheets in between, like others have mentioned. The pipe keeps everything nice and straight/stiff.

I used to roll them up...But as carefull as you may be they still can get marked. Just this weekend I have decided to lay them flat in the mid cabin.
