Hi guys would like your input. Wife wants to move up. I have 1991 35'DA. Will be moving up to either a 42'DA 2003-05 or 46' DA 2000-2002. What is best Price and or Value? Both boats same cummins, Bow thruster, Hard top.

Two completely different boats. I love the styling on the 420DA but love the room and how seaworthy the 460DA is. It all depends on how you boat, how many people are normally on your boat and how far you tend to travel. The 420 has about the same room as my 410 and the 460 is a beast in comparison. For short trips and weekends only I would stay with the 420 but if you get into rough seas and extended trips go with the 460 IMHO.

Define value.

The 46 is a larger boat in every way but at the cost of the slightly older styling. If I were shopping the 2 the 420 is very sexy looking but I wouldn't be able to get past how much larger the 460 is with a nicer laid out interior I think from my perspective.

I would be shooting for the 460, but not turn away a good deal on a 420.

Thanks for the quick response. I am a little apprehensiveness about future costs of winter storage, fuel burn, docking fees,re sale value in 7 or 8 years.

Good luck, i am sure you will find what you are looking for!

Man,
I wish my wife was more like yours! I don't think I ever have to "worry" about her telling me we need to "move up"!! Good luck with the hunt!! Kep us posted!

I would also add the 2003-2005 Formula 47 Yacht to the list, even though shes not a Sea Ray the boat is a TANK in rough water and generally in the same price range.

there was a beauty in Forked River for sale about a month ago... It had a had top... Not sure if it is still on the market... I would also like a 46, but right now the timing is not right for us....

Ray,
I was up to New Buffalo to see the 47 Y you had for sale. Hope you are having a good winter season.
I had looked at the Formula's for a long time and bought a 2004 Sea Ray 500 Sundancer instead. They came out with the 47 with smaller power and than lunched the 48 Yacht with a lot more HP. We liked the layout and size of the Sea Ray and the resale value. Please do not get me wrong Formula builds a top notch boat and on the resale market appears to sell for alot less than comparable sized SeaRays the 47Y gives you a lot for your money and in my opinion the 48Y gives even more for more money. I voted with my wallet and went for the Sea Ray!
We just are waiting for it to arrive in it's new home in AZ.

Thats awesome Warren, great to hear from you! The 500 is one of my all time favorites and I have a friend who has one with the 700 Mans in it. Sea Ray got the layout right on that one!
