I boat in muddy saltwater on the Texas coast. I've noticed the white hull that sits below the waterline is turning a little brown.

What is the best (and easiest to use) product to remedy this?

Oxalic acid works great. Starbright hull cleaner is a good product if you don't want to use toilet cleaner.

Toilet cleaner is almost instant stain removal. But, if you are not a careful worker, I wouldnt do it. But, wow does it work well.

Muriatic acid that you buy at a hardware store should take care of the problem more then likely. The problem is most of the time brown water stain is organic and most soaps have no effect on it.Plus it is not on the surface but in the pores of the gel coat. With my boat on its trailer I hose the trailer down with water then spray the hull down with a pump sprayer full of 50/50 diluted muriatic acid (most store bought acid is diluted) after that I hose off the trailer until hull whitens up then I hose every thing down.Do this on a non windy day and use a lot of water I would also wear eye protection read the bottle for proper safety precautions . I'm sure there will be other calm there is a product that will clean your hull but if you try them and they don't work give this a try.

The Works toilet bowl cleaner. You can get it at the Dollar General store for yes, $1. Works great. Spray or wipe it on, let it sit a couple minutes and spray it off.

Thumbs up.

Mary Kate Hull Cleaner or FSR will take it off and quick. Rinse it off of your trailer right away. In fact, as I was putting it on with one hand, I had the hose misting the trailer with the other. It still got me in a couple of small places. Hard time getting rid of it.

+ 1 for Marikate On and Off. If ou are going to leave her in for any length of time, you need to get something on the hull bottom.

I'll second the Starbrite hull cleaner. It isn't the cheapest solution, but it works great. The active ingredient is oxalic acid, so be careful when using it....it will certainly find any cuts you may have on your hands rather quickly, lol.

IronOut will also work.

Iron out is all you need unless you want the nose bleeds with the acid

dpv was the one who shared this with me several years ago.

Super IronOut works great and will not harm anything, Except it will discolor bottom paint. It neutralizes the plant tannins that stain your gelcoat quickly. It is not a cleaner so clean it first with soap then I wipe it on with a cotton hand towel to eliminate the staining.

are you wanting to clean boat in or out of the water? not sure if you have a slip or dock??
I use Magic Eraser in the water, works well.
I have a suction cup so I don't keep getting pushed away while either on my dinghy or in the water.
Never heard of Iron out? Is it a liquid??

I got iron out at lowe's as a liquid in a spray bottle. If you are on a lift and no trailer to contend with, the iron out may be your least expensive route and it will get the job done and quickly....

I'm with Scott on the magic eraser. We moor in the brackish zone of a river. We've found the Mari Kate works best. We've also found there is no permanent damage, and the brown marks come back in a couple days.
