In your experiences, what is the best North Texas lake for the whole family to enjoy? I want to have fun, but with 3 children, safety is also a big concern. I know our local Marine Max uses Lewisville for all of their events, but i have heard terrible things about overcrowding and safety. Thanks for the help.

I have to agree with the PK comment but unfortunately it's a two hour drive for us. We have been at Pier 121 on Lewisville for 11 years with no plans to leave. The 12 minute drive from our house is the primary reason. It's not a beautiful lake but it is what it is. I grew up in Austin boating on Travis and know it was dangerous 30 years ago and more so today but man was it beautiful. As for safety, statistically I think Lewisville is still the most deadly lake in Texas. That's because it is so close to a major metro area. What you need to consider when making a decision to go to any lake is that they are all dangerous. I'd be willing to bet that 95% of boaters have never taken a boating safety class and think that there are no rules like when driving on the road. Nothing could be further from the truth and it's obvious to me every time I take out my boat. In nearly all situations it will be the decisions you make that will determine how safe you are. Our daughter was 3 when we bought our first Sea Ray and got a good slip at 121. She is now 14 and has never been in danger (knock on wood) while on the lake with us. Just another perspective to consider.

I used to live in the Rockwall area, and Lake Ray Hubbard is nice and big, but that is a haul for you in Arlington. PK is a good choice; however, the problem is always you are in a closed body of water trusting the skills and alcohol saturation of the other guy in a boat.

This is one of the niceties of where I live now - hundreds of miles of protected water.

Cedar Mills Marina on Lake Texoma is by far the best family oriented marina that I have been to. They have nice slips both covered and uncovered, cabins, RV park, landing strip, petting farm with very well behaved animals, a brand new restaurant, and the best service center on the lake. Go to www.cedarmills.com and check them out. Yes, it is a long drive for you, but there are quite a few who drive from OKC and Wichita Falls, TX every weekend. One of my friends lives less than a mile from Lake Grapevine, and he keeps his boat at Cedar Mills. The lake has great fishing with over 200 fishing guides, and the islands are a blast. North Island is the party island, and does get pretty wild at times so we do avoid it. Wood Island is large and has lots of places to anchor, swim, and play in the sand. I've even seen deer on Wood Island. The only reason I would leave Texoma would be to go the the Gulf Coast. Come check out our wonderful lake!

lake Ray Roberts. Between Sanger and Pilot Point. Great marina and sparse amount of boats.

+ 1  but PK is nice also

Use to be at Ray Roberts, nice lake for a while, then boring. Texoma is worth the drive. Good Luck

There are many coves you can find in Lewisville that are not "party coves". thats where i always go and its usually quite peaceful. I am slipped at eagle point marina and there are lot of places to the west of there that you would enjoy. just look out for the idiot wakeboarders.

PK is my favorite. Best landscape of any lakes around here that I've been on. Quite a drive to get out there, but well worth it when we get the chance!
