Many years ago when I was a cop I was into competitive pistol shooting. I had collected S&W revolvers in .44 Mag, .41Mag, .357Mag in all barrel lengths in both stainless and blued. I never shot them, except for a 6" blued .44 Mag which I got when I was in AK. I had it Mag-Na-Ported and fitted for a scope and used it for caribou hunting. The rest were all new, in their original packaging with all paperwork and accessories.

Then my son got old enough to own a handgun and slowly but surely they all seemed to make the transition from my safe to their house. I finally suggested he take my large gun safe to his house since he had the majority of my rifles, shotguns and handguns. He did, and I bought a smaller, 12 gun safe in which I keep a couple of handguns, a couple of shotguns and one rifle.

Now, I collect Swarovski Christmas ornaments. I have 24 of them, the oldest is a 1991, then I skipped a few years and have them consecutively from about 1997 through this year. Not as much fun to collect as a bunch of handguns, but getting to be a pretty nice bunch to hang on the tree. I'm also adding every year to a separate collection that are still in the original box, never opened and never displayed. Those are going to be for sale one of these days.

So, what do you collect?

Tax bills and insurance bills. And that coming from one of the more liberal members of this board.

I also collect guns. My Dad had a couple he bought after leaving the army that happen to be of value. I have 6 pistols so far....Ruger .22 MK4 for competitive bullseye. A Walther PPK .380 James Bond replica. Glock and S&W 9mm for carry. I try and collect money and as above it seems to get spent...cuz that's what it is for! If I had a bigger garage I would collect some cars and motorcycles as well.

Ammunition.

Colts, mostly black powder Army, Navy, and Pocket revolvers from the 1800's. Also powder flasks from early 1800's till after the war, Peace Flasks.

My Mom had so many collections of Pewter, Delf, Hummels, Steife, you name it she collected it. She has been gone for four years now and we still have all of her stuff in the Cottage on our ranch where she spent her final years. I have my sewing table set up in the living room and am surrounded by her little trinkets as I sew my canvas projects and it makes me feel as though she is still with us. I won't add to the collections but we are not likely to every divest of it either. Ill just live vicariously thru her collections.

Other than guns and ammo, I collect quarters... started with the State quarters, and now the "America the Beautiful" series. I have uncirculated rolls in both mints of all of them. Not sure if they will ever be worth much in my lifetime, but will probably leave them to my grand kids.

Started getting a Hess Truck for my kids every year in 1997 and always picked up a spare for myself to remain new in the box.
Would love to add seven more Corvettes. I’ve got a low mileage C6 convertible that I bought new. It’s in my garage with my 1968 GTO.
Would be nice to have one Corvette from each generation but unfortunately I only have a two car garage.
Having limited garage space is probably a good thing though because there are a bunch of other classic cars that I would want to fill a bigger garage with. A bigger garage would also have to have a bathroom, shower and room for a bed too because if I got any more toys my wife would probably kick me out of the house.
Hmmm.........a multi car storage building with lifts on a canal and my boat tied up at the dock.........I guess it doesn’t hurt to fantasize.......

I just found out about Hess trucks when my kids got a couple for Christmas. I'm impressed with their quality and the amount of small features they have. Yeah yeah... they'll be collectors some day I know. Try explaining that to a small child though.

Ammunition.
I've got a healthy stash of ammo too. I remember when I was a kid using that of my Dad and Grandpa. Some of that stuff was older than the hills. I used to wonder why they didn't use the old stuff first. Now I've got odds and ends of my own that are 50+ years old. I don't do much shooting anymore but of course I still add to the stash. It'd be a bad day if a guy ran out.

I collect money and as I tell my clients 70% of something is better than 100% of nothing....

They are good quality and although they aren’t as much of a bargain as they used to be at current prices, they are still worth it.

It appears I collect everything. Don't seem to be able to throw anything away....just might need it ya know. Especially if its boat-related shit.

George Carlin said it best.... "You ever notice how your shit is stuff and everyone else's stuff is shit?"
