Hi, all.

I removed my Benson windlass, yesterday. I had to destroy the capstan in order to do so, but the motor, etc., looks almost new (the boat has very few hours on it, and I doubt that this windlass was EVER used, by the previous (original) owner. I would be happy to let someone here have it--perhaps there's something you can trade for it?

Thanks,
David

i'd have to look. i'll get back to you. it's the original stock unit from an 89 sundancer 300.

I think this might work for me is the shaft still good

as i mentioned in my posting, the shaft has been cut at the top. but it might be workable.

I've mentioned this elsewhere but I keep reading about people destroying these things when removing. It isn't obvious, but there is a set-screw hidden in the groove of the gypsy. you may have to remove the rode to see it.

yes, i know all about the set screw. that was not the issue here---nor was the spline, which i also know about. this was a case of two different metals bonding to one another after thirty years in a salt air environment. the only way out was to cut, unfortunately. it was not a great design, frankly. but there ya have it.
