My 1990 Searay 27' DA bennett trim tab pump is leaking between the motor and resovoir. Is their a seal that is replaceable or is it best to get a new unit? It's not leaking at the hoses.

Misaksen,

There is a grommet where the pickup tube from the pump enters the top of the reservoir and seal where the black top of the reservoir meets the translucent bottom. How high is the fluid in the reservoir? It should not be closer than about an inch from the black to part. If fluid is added when the Trim Tabs are down the reservoir will overflow when they are retracted. If the system is always leaking and eventually runs dry than the leak is likely in the pump. But if the fluid level is too high it may leak until the fluid is at the correct level.

Let me know if you recently topped off the system and perhaps the Trim Tabs were down when you did. If not than the pump will need to be replaced.

Exactly.. At some point after cleaning beneath the pump (if an overfill situation) the proper fluid level would be attained at some point right? Its seems to keep leaking after multiple up/down use until its dry.

If it keeps leaking until its dry (there no leaks at fittings & outside actuators) would you guess I should replace the pump? Just want to make sure I exhaust all options before replacing. Also - They are self-beeding pumps right?

Big thanks for the quick response. I hear great things about your customer service which is a rare thing these days.. :)

Not sure if this mess is coming from the trim tab pump or the genny.

Can you tell if it is trim tab juice just from looking at the pictures?

I don't see any accumulation of oil in the pan that the genny is sitting on, but, it does have a drain hole in the corner and the pan is oily to the touch.

Jerry,

Normally the fluid used in Bennett Trim Tab systems should be (actually must be) Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). ATF is red and so I suspect that the fluid in the picture is not from The Trim Tabs. Of course someone may have used the wrong fluid in the Trim Tabs at some point.

Can you reach the Trim Tab pump easily to remove the cover to check the fluid?

Thanks. I'll see if I can check it out this afternoon. Don't believe that I ever added fluid to the trim tab tank, so, I didn't know what it used. That is why I just called it "juice" :smt101

It looks like my main suspect is gonna be the generator.
