Before there was a boat....

That's my bike collection, pre boat, pre vaca home. Garage is now full of old fishing gear and used anchor rode.
What started out as 'I think I'll get a dirt bike' spanned 15 years of Motorcross racing, 10 years of working at the local Honda dealership, and a few seasons with a small sponsorship from American HONDA, the Mothership.
At the same time, I'm buying, repairing and selling used bikes, from the same dealership I'm working for.
At one point, I had more used bikes on the showroom floor than the dealership had new bikes to sell.

Here's a personal bike I restored from a bare frame up.(YES, that's six cylinder's, straight across!) 4 years of on-off work and parts collecting. It started life as a 1981 Honda CBX 1000.

I've been touring the mountainous roads of the Blue Ridge Parkway since 2001. This is me with a 2004 Yamaha FJR 1300cc.

That was then. Now, I Like my boat. Seeing what I did with the whole Motorcycle thing kinda' scares me a bit when considering the boat....

Very cool. For me it was a series of Honda Goldwings, starting with a 1000 and moving up to an Aspencade 1200. Also three old muscle cars, all 1970's including a virgin-like gold colored Malibu with 47,000 miles on it when I bought it, a White with black stripes SS454 that was a real rocket, and a red with black stripes El Camino that had a 350 in it that my son and I rebuilt into a 383 Stroker. That was just about as fast as the 454 and drew a lot of looks.

Then I discovered boating and they all went bye bye, and I went buy buy!

Buy, buy.....And I used to think 75 bucks for a rear knobby tire, that could be worn out in 1 good day, was going to break me. Little did I know the bargain that it was..

cool. prior to boating it was my son's racing. he started karting in 2004 at 10 years old and that lasted about 10 years. he ended up racing with a couple of NASCAR drivers and a few Indy car drivers. before that i had a 1970 Olds W31, a 1969 Chevelle SS with a 650HP 454 street/strip car, a 1966 Chevy II, a 1970 Monte Carlo, and a 1957 Chevy street/strip car (552HP 393 SBC). my hobbies keep getting more and more expensive

I still have my other toys. A 68 GTO that I finished almost 20 years ago and a loaded 7000 mile 2007 Corvette Convertible I bought new and went to Bowling Green to watch come down the assembly line. At 62 it's unlikely that I'll ever knowingly part with either one of them. More likely that my kids will sell them off when the time comes. Then again, they're almost as attached to them as I am.

Glad to revive some Captains 'other lives', and see the love of the internal combustion engine we all share!
Reading the last several post reminded me of a few things. I'm moving soon and of all the trophy's I have in the attic, I'm only taking one with me.
1 of my dads'.
He was an avid Kart racer. Twin 2 stroke, alcohol burning engines,. The smell of the stuff today brings my mind back to seeing him sliding that kart sideways around the track, AND waving at me and my mom on the bleachers. It is, no doubt, where I got my competitive sprite.
Also, my dad had a 65? Chevelle SS, the 1st year the 396 came out. He used to tell stories of picking up hitchhikers. Stories that had endings' like, "SIR, please Stop and lets me outa' this here Rocketship"
Thanks for sharing as well.

That garage makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym-class.
