Beaching your boat

How many of you beach your boat?
I live in Florida and boat on the Gulf. This seems like a disastrous idea to me due to the tides and possibly messing up your gel coat. Just wondering, since I see people doing this on occassion.

Am I missing something? I have a 240 Sundeck.

Glad you asked this I've wondered myself and I had a 240sd as well.

I've seen some people beached and others anchored off shore.

We also have a 2006 240 Sundeck. Love it!

We go to Egmont and the Desoto Dog Beach most of the time. Been down to Venice. I want to get to Key West, but dear spouse does not have enough time off from work...

NEVER EVER beach that beautiful boat unless you want to destroy the bottom.

ideal into about 3-4 feet of water. aim the bow out and go back out about 40 or 50 feet. drop the front anchor and back up. once you have a least a 7x scope out. turn off the engine, trim the drive up to trailer and go off the back with a rear anchor. give it about a 7x scope and relax.

too many a$$ holes go by the beachs on plane or worse halfway on plane and firmly ground any one who is beached further up the beach. it never fails; seems like i see at least one boat everytime I go out with 6 or 7 guys pushing hard to get it back out in the water agian. Please don't be that guy.....

So there is your answer

When did you get yours? I assume from Clearwater MM

I've had mine since end of Oct 06 but havn't gotten to use it much as I'd like to.

Those people don't know anything about boating :smt021 .

you will always see people beaching their boats, but most of these folks do it cause a) they don't care about there boats or b) they don't understand the concept of proper scope.

So taking the B group these folks will pull up to the beach point their bow out and then drop 10 feet of line in 4 feet of water (see deck boat in picture below) and wonder why their boat ends up on the beach when the 38 foot Sedan bridge goes by. So the next time they go out instead of putting out more line they just firgure that they will cut to chase and put the boat on the beach to start with. not too bright.

invest in 2 anchors one for front, one for the back. invest in 2 rodes of at least 100 feet. one for the front and one for the back. then anchor bow facing out in about 3-4 feet of water to allow you time to react to tide changes and to keep the boat from hitting bottom as the waves from the 38 foot sedan bridge roll towards shore.

Note: 4 feet of water + 3 feet from water to deck = 7
7 X 7 (minimum scope) = 49 feet of line for front/rear anchor to hold properly.

see picture insert of egmont key.

August of 06. We never go out as much as we want! We try to get out every weekend.

We keep it at Shell Point in Ruskin - we do the dry rack storage.

Where do you hang out?

thanks Morph...

I spent too much time trying to figure out how to insert the pic of egmont and you beat me to the response.

Thanks. This is how we've always anchored (as you suggest above). I grew up boating and never understood beaching your boat. They even show beached boats in Sea Ray ads! I always wondered if I was missing something, but common sense told me that it was a disaster waiting to happen. Thanks for the info, I do appreciate your input.

water rat;

welcome aboard, i see I have another brother on the BAY. I'm north of you on old tampa bay up in channel A. i guess I'm one of the locuk ones who keeps his boat parked behind the house.

check my post on the "Southeast" I'd like to get a bunch of us together during aquapoloza...2 weeks out..good time to plan the day.

how about you morpheus...you in...

beaching is not a good thing

i just back up to the land drop an anchor.. let the front, then jump out and set the rear anchor by hand...

heres a pic of my boat anchored in front of a friends hotel on the gulf off clearwater beach.. the water is about 5 ft in the front and about 3 ft in the rear..

We beach ours on Lake Lure. I just slowly cruise up to the back of a cove were there is a very small beach and let the front of the boat just barely run into the sand. I then tie the front off and then drop the anchor in the back to keep the boat from moving. I also put the stern in the trailer mode once we are anchored since it is a little on the shallow side and it helps me not to worry when the waves bounce the boat up and down. Other than that, I give it a small push and walk around to the back, climb in and by that time we are in 4ft of water and back up and drive away. Here is a few pics of ours. We are new to this and it seems to work. Guys, let me know if I should do something different.

First I gotta get my boat back from MM who's had it for 4 weeks. For stuff they should of done when I took delivery. I'm already workin the wife on going. I normally put in at Safety Harbor Spa any recommedations on putting it closer or on the gulf side or should I fly out the bay to it?

actually most of the guys pull it slowely onto land then the tide drops.. they dont watch the tide.. i look at the tide all the time and sometimes pull the boat closer ot push it out further...

Get a keel guard, that might help if you choose to beach. Most of the time on the coast we anchor front and back. But at the river most of the sand bars are deep so we nose in and that does the trick.

River/Lake sand is different from Gulf/Ocean sand isn't it? I almost wanna say River/Lake sand is not as abrasive as Gulf/Ocean sand but heck what do I know :smt017

Looks like I need longer rope for my existing anchor and need to get a stern anchor as well. Any recommendations on a good stern anchor for a 240sd?

a fluke style... if you go to west marine they have flukes that are sized for the size of your boat;.
