I bought a beach umbrella with the intent to modify it and the bow table to create shade on the bow of the boat. I saw a picture somewhere of it being done but can’t seem to find it again. I was planning on using a hole saw just slightly larger than the diameter of the umbrella pole to drill out the center of the table. When at anchor I would secure the umbrella in the hole created. Wondering if anyone has done this and how it worked out.

Haven’t done it yet, but this is something I’d like to do this year.

I was thinking more like this. I have a Bimini top for the cockpit but wanted the ability to add shade to the front when needed. The umbrella was on sale at Costco and not purpose built. I was imagining something like in this photo.

I had that beach umbrella from costco. It's at the bottom of the marina. :) Had it setup in a rod holder. Needed to tie it down with bungee cords. Big wind came and took it away while I watched it. Replaced with the taylor made product. It's pretty slick.

Did it on our 340. Have a stern sunshade shade cover that attaches to bimini and covers entire aft cockpit (takes a little time to set up), but pop the umbrella in if only going to be anchored out for a short time. Goes up in bout a minute. Drilled hole in umbrella tube to hook bungee cord in and did same to table stand to keep from blowing out. We also have used it without the table and just the table support tube.

I use the Anchor Shade on my Grady center console and can quickly put up on the bow or aft for shade where needed. You can usually find it for a little about $125 if you shop around.

The Anchor Shade gets some pretty good reviews, perhaps I’ll ditch my idea and try that out. Thanks.
