I'm looking to find a good beach spot this year near Edgewater, MD. Somewhere I can drop anchor and take the dinghy over. This would have to be kid friendly, any suggestions?

There is a few nice places on the West River and also on the Severn River There is one place on the South River that is nice but for the life on me I can not think of the name It is on the left as you are heading to the Bay almost directly across from Selby Bay

There are two small islands in the Rhode River off the West River. There is also a beach area at the south end of Herring Bay and if you are visiting Herrington Harbor South they have a beach also.

Harness (sp?) Creek used to have a great beach, but its nearly gone these days. Still a popular place to anchor and swim. Very near by is a great dog park where dogs can swim in the river.

There really aren't too many other anchorages with beaches on the South River that are deep enough to get in close, or out of traffic.

As mentioned above the Rhodes River probably is the closest bet, with several beaches (or islands) depending on the tide.

Another suggestion would be to head across the bay to the Eastern Shore. The Chester River has lots of nice anchorages and beaches (until the jellies get there in early July).

Just up the Chester a little is a beach that is great for anchoring, swimming and beach. Locals call it Conquest Beach but it's not maked on the charts.

+1 on Harness Creek, it is a nice anchorage with a little beach here and there. It is right off Quiet Waters park in Annapolis so people paddling and dogs swimming too. On the Severn you can try the "Rope Swing" in Luce Creek. It is the first cove on the left west of the rt. 50 bridge. Nice anchorage with a rope swing on shore, lots of fun in there. Enjoy!
