bby back in action...sea trials

I Have a different boat here, but I run about 40 to 42 WOT at 4600 or so, This summer I run a 50 mile trip at 3600 rpms and 31 mph load with dink, carry on air, genny, plus gear for 3 adult and two kids. 1.55 mpg. 4.3 are 175 horse model so there two barrle's. 19 pitch Marige props. (like them alot better than the alu. 21 pitch stock) Ussually cruise a little slower, about 27 to 29.

I had her out on Apache Lake today. Wide open I was able to get her up to 47 MPH SOG Cranking 4600 RPM. Full Fuel, Full Water, Anchors, gear, and food...and two people. The video attached was before I trimmed her out correctly. Disregard the tachs they are a little screwy. I loved these new props!

HOLY CRAP. I did not think a 268DA could go that fast.

Beautiful pics and yeah, I'm jealous.

50 degrees, 30mph winds and rain in Michigan today....

She's moving right along. Can you cruise at 35mph without the secondarys on the 4bb?

Well you don't have to rub it in... but no man great pics.. and looks like a great day thanks for sharing.

BBY,
Seeing those pictures and the video makes me want to move to AZ all the more and a red state to boot! How much combined horsepower do your engines put out?

The Merc rating with the 4 Barrel Quadrajet is 205 HP a pop...so 410HP Combined. I think they had to get as much as they could out of these 4.3l's as she is probably the heaviest 268, Sea Ray produced. The only option she doesn't have is the radar arch. I've added holding a holding tank, a 20 Gal bigger water tank, and a Microwave....Doesn't exactly help with weight. You can see in the pics that she squats pretty good in the water in comparison to most 268's. I've measured the engine room, she could fit 5.7's in there, but I think at that point my back deck would be under water.

(My normal equipment haul is: 3 Anchors, Tool box, 2 spare aluminum props, life jackets, all associated ropes, fenders, gear/engine oil, few fire extinguishers, some camping gear..ect....So we don't travel real light either) Last time she was on a scale, she came in at 10,500lbs with the trailer.)
Not to get polital here....but heres to being a red state!:smt038 Though Cali. regulations seem to keep trickling over here:smt101

Thats something I will have to check out....I know anything around 35 is when she really starts having to push and she isn't really cruising anymore, thats about where she gets pretty throaty.

Amen!! I'm on my way...lol!

About the only thing keeping me here is the Great Lakes. Something about those inland sea's that I can't get out of my mind. BBY, let us know if they plant salmon and trout in those lakes you have there.

I put mine across the scales this past week and she weighs in at 9850 on the trailer with a half tank of gas. I think a lot of that is the 5/8" thick hull she now has after all the fresh glass work we did to it last winter.

You are right, these boats would rock with twin 350's, but they would need to go forward about 4-5 feet to level out the boat.

Is there any room left in that thing with the genny and air? I have no Idea were a Genny would go in mine. Here's the wiegh I recorded last year on mine, think the trailer wieght 2200 when I wieghed it for the plate's

1990 270 sea ray sundancer wieght on 8-6-10 full of gas, dinging in front, engines full of water, tool box and life jackets
With 1999 dodge truck with me and Laurie, Henry and Ema. 18120 pounds
Boat and trailer with unhooked from boat 10620 pounds
Boat hooked to trailer with trailer axles on the scales 9920 pounds
700 pounds tung weight. Boat is ahead on trailer 3 inches past rear bunk end with depht sound kicked up.

Awesome run! Where is Apache Lake?....Mike.
