Bayliner going up-market?

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's a duck (or a Meridian).

Bayliners are not produced in Sea Ray plants....at least up until now. Who knows in the future since both are Brunswick companies.

There are significant but perhaps subtle differences between a top quality boat line and one designed to be for entry level boaters and budget price points. I haven't seen the Bayliner piece referenced in this thread because I'm just not interested in what an entry level boat maker does. I can tell you that at one point in a previous discussion a CSR member posted photos of his Bayliner engine spaces and a cursory look showed no bonding wires on anything, no ground block, non-stainless handles on valves, etc. Bayliner gets those low prices by leaving stuff out that Sea Ray and its customers feel is important.

Here's the 2010 Jaguar XKCrap...

I've got more Tiara hats than you can shake a stick at. In fact we have a "hat box" on our boat and give hats to our SR friends. We also get T-shirts, burgees, coffee mugs, drink glasses, and have our pictures taken from helicopters when we go to events. Tiara does not skimp on stuff for its customers. The company also just introduced a new certification program for used boats. Essentially, this is similar to what BMW, Audi and Acura do for cars. You have your used boat "certified" and the company gives the new buyer of your boat a one year warranty.

Go to Aquapalooza - they hand out hats there too.

Not by us. I had to drive 600 miles to get two t-shirts. They gave NOTHING away at this year's event at Tices Shoal. Not complaining - I dont believe in complaining about not getting free stuff - just sayin'

Bayliner 340 (Their "Flagship") = 12,660 lbs dry

Sea Ray 330 = 15,400 lbs dry

Same LOA, but the SR has larger standard power, which accounts for only about 200 lbs of additional weight.

Not a bad looking 22 footer. I actually like the graphics better than on some newer SR's. I dont understand having the cooler and garbage can in a storage compartment under the aft seat cushion. Seems like alot of up and down's for your guests? Maybe I'm missing something?

Mr. Webster indicated Bayliner is able to reach their price point by leaving stuff out.

On the 340, it looks like they left out about 2,600 lbs of stuff, which is one reason why the 2 boats feel so different during a sea trial.

What's a "bayliner?" Is that some kind of boat?
