Bayliner Advertises on Sea Ray site.

Well I didn't post this thread as a knock on either boat or either site, heck if I wanted to do that I would tell the guys on here to read the tech section on BOC but first put your guns away as you might be tempted to use it after read just one guys posts.

The fact that Bayliner is advertising on, I won't say the competitions site as I feel that they fill 2 different markets but both are selling boats and want to keep their market share, I look at it as GM having Ford running ads on their site. I know they are owned by the same parent company (Bayliner and Sea Ray) but it still looks weird.

I must say this is my first time in the holding tank and if I had know it was going to cause such a stir on the Bayliner site I would have posted it in the holding tank and not the tiki bar and over on the BOC site.

I like the ads that's why I like coming to the site looking at the ads then I can log in and not see the ads but it is my choice.

I see why that guy is paranoid over there on BOC it's because of my post here not because of what I said over there.

Ken

I received your e-mail Doug but prefer to address it on the forum.
I see I need to clarify my post, the person that I mentioned as being paranoid is not you Doug so relax.
I don't complain on this site about the other site that you run (BOC). I did not when I started this thread mention BOC or anything about it. You came in here as a storm trooper complaining how this site is operated, off topic and it has nothing to do with my original post. The post was and is about Bayliner advertising on this site and how it is a strange place for them to advertise, as I see it. If you can't separate that from BOC then you have the problem and you need to deal with it. If you have anything else please post it and I will address it.

Here is what the fuss is all about.

2850Bounty makes it sounds like he goes boating ALL the time. :smt043

Well here's his piece of sh*t Bayliner sitting in the weeds for the past 6yrs. :wow:

Blame Google for taking this pic in 2011.. Welcome to the free information of the internet. :smt024

PS, Rick posted his address on another forum.

Most ads are set into the site by a third party like "Google Ads", Jim does not have an employee calling or running around looking for advertisers. Jim also has little control of the ads if it works as the site I have been around. ...But it is funny. MM

Actually, Jim could turn off the ads anytime he wanted to.

I agree with you Doug, that Jim can turn them on and off, he most likley doesn't control the ads themselves. MM

Yes, you can control who the ads are from, who can see them, etc. The ads can be seen by post count, subscription, all kinds of ways to spam you... There are over 12,000 url's to choose from currently.

I am saying again that most of the time the site does not control Google Ads. I went to the site from another computer that is not used for CSR and did not log in. The ads presented were for a variety of boating products AND stuff we had recently searched for on Google on that computer. That is how Google Ads works, it keeps track of your searches to place relevant ads in various sites for people who might thinking of buying the product they were searching for.

Another example is I recently looked at a particular manufacturer of shoes, since then I have seen ads from probably a half dozen retailers of that brand of shoes. The retailers pay Google to place those ads in the sites I visit. You may visit the same sites and never see those ads because they were displayed to ME due to MY search history. If you look at Bayliners their ads are going to come up for YOU, even in a Sea Ray site. Neither Google nor Bayliner deliberately placed the ad in the SR site, but the ad followed the user.

That is my understanding of how Google ads works. Do some of you computer guys know anything different? MM

That's interesting Mike, I have not been to the Bayliner site for 2 years at least and I have not done any reasearch where I have googled Bayliner. I have Sea Ray, Cruiser and Meridian but no Bayliner I have been to the BOC site as I a member (I think, might have changed) there since 2004. I am wondering because of my search of 2 Brunswick products if it triggers Bruinswick ads. Either way I don't mind the ads gives me some more places to look at and some good ideas. I saw one for teak and other woods that I was interested in, finding a bulk supplier for teak is not easy and at a good price.

Ken, As to the why they choose to show what ads they show, it is what makes Google billions and is their proprietary formulation. Some of it is simple but much of it is complex. When you right click on the ads it says where they originate from, many come from Googleads.G.DoubleClick.net. MM

Well here's BOC locked up like a jail. They force you to join to see anything. :wow:

Go2Marine is our first new sponsor in our quest to make discounts available to registered BOC members only. That means if you are a "guest", you will see the Go2Marine forum but it will indicate that it is private to you as a guest.

What a F'in joke the BOC site has become. :smt043, Doug keep up the great job that you're doing over there.

Why did so many forum threads go private :wow:, What are you trying to hide from the outsiders ??. :smt017

You are correct sir ! Google determines which ads to show past on alot of things including past sites seaches etc
