I'm hoping the CSR Brain Trust can help me....

On our dual-battery set-up, there are two connections to the hot side of each battery -- one is the heavy main connection, the other is a lighter (about 10 gauge?) wire.

The batteries were removed for the winter, and when they were replaced the connector on one of these smaller wires was damaged. I was not able to repair it immediately and had to leave it disconnected for a week. I also left the converter off for that week. When I returned to the boat, the batteries were very low.

Two questions...what are these wires for? The wiring diagram seems to suggest they connect between the positive terminal and ground on the converter through a fuse which is approximately 5 amps greater than the capacity of the converter bank. According to the diagram, they also connect to the negative battery terminal (again through the fuse).

And second, perhaps more important question...what would happen if they were connected to the wrong battery (ie, switched during spring commissioning)?

I don't know if it's related, but the generator acts as though it has a dead battery, but when I had the damaged wire disconnected it started right up.

Help!
Thanks!
Jeff
