Just bought a 2008 195 sport 4.3 merc(190 hp). The original battery is dead. The boat only has 18 hrs on it. I am assuming it needs a new battery. Can someone please give me some ideas. I have jump started it and it runs fine but won't restart after about 10 min. of running. Not sure what size, cca, and if I need a marine specific battery.

Thanks

There are several standard marine batteries. Yours should be a Group 27 Marine Battery. If replacing, I would recommend a Maintenance free battery such as AGM. You will be glad you did. Lead Acid Batteries are a PIA!

Check with your dealer to be sure of size.

Next time you jump it and get it running, check it with a meter to see if the alternator is charging the battery. Alternator may have took a dump.

As jpk33 noted, once running you can check the alternator by revving the motor and watching for a rise on the dash meter (or VOM if you don't have one in the dash). Another indicator is a battery voltage reading not running vs. running... the running voltage should be higher.
