I have an Onan 8KW Diesel Generator.

The battery for it is a deep cycle, 750 MCA, Group 27 battery and needs to be replaced.

Wouldn't just a standard starting battery be better then a deep cycle, as it's only purpose is for starting the generator? Am I missing something as to why a deep cycle battery was in there?

When you say “battery for it”, do you mean the battery that was attached to the gen when you bought the boat? Or do you mean the battery for it according to the user manual?

Thanks for the replies.

Good question.

The battery that was attached to it. The manual would be a good place for that info, but CSR is so much easier! :)

I have a standard starting battery from Costco, Interstate brand, group 27, wet cell, installed in the spring of 2012 and still going strong...
