I'm new to this just today, so I'm not sure if this is even the right place to ask a question but I'm going to give it a try and I'm sure someone with correct me if I am wrong...I have a 89 340 Express Cruiser and my question is this, do my batteries charge when plugged into shore power if my main battery switch is in the off position? If anyone has a suggestion, would be greatly appreciated...Bob

Is that turned on in the main control panel or at the master on and off switch below in the engine compartment...I see in my picture what you are talking about...one last question, does the main battery switch below in the engine compartment need to be on or does the charging take place before it goes through the shut off?

It should.

You must have the AC power on and the AC converter (battery charger) turned on.
Thank you for your reply...one last question, does the main battery switch located below in the engine compartment need to be on or does the charging take place before the main shut off...Bob

In my experience the battery charger is wired independently of the battery switches.

This should be very easy to confirm ..... should be able to follow the wires from the charger directly to the battery banks.

Thank you so much for your reply, as I have stated, I am new to this along with this being my first boat...I have been working on it a year putting down a teak floor along with fixing several other things, I am just now getting into the electrical and you have been a great help, thanks again...Bob

Little Ducky is right the charger/converter is on the battery side of the disconnect switches. And, FYI there are other loads (devices) on the battery side of the disconnect switch such as the bilge pumps, stereo memory, and emergency circuits. You may note that your main 12V circuit breaker panel is divided into four sections - Starboard and Port then the starboard and port are each divided into switched and unswitched (sometimes called "Line" (battery side) and "Load" (switched side).

Thank you...the response I have received is beyond my belief...as for pictures, I am just finishing a Teak wood floor in the cabin area and as that is done I will be happy, (bragging) to send pictures...I've been working on this boat, my first boat for over a year now...I've replaced all the cabin lights with brass LED lights, removed all the carpet and replaced with Teak, pulled one of the transmissions to replace the dampener plate, replaced the top, sanded down to gel coat to replace the bottom paint, buffed the whole boat 3 different times, replaced the packing on both prop shafts along with the packing on the rudder shafts, I will still need to make some type of door going down into the cabin area as the original owners removed the original...I live in the mountains in Colorado so the weather has been a bit of a challenge...thank you for the welcome, I wish I would've joined a year ago as I've had many questions and learned most of this the hard way...Bob

Thank you, this helps so much as I am just now learning the electrical...but I have a really stupid question, where is that main 12V circuit braker panel, is it down by the main disconnect?

Hope this helps... 1988 Sedan Bridge panels...
