(98 Dancer) I have 3 batteries and that have lived their life so decided to replace all 3. There are two deep cycle and one starting. I replaced and hooked them up according to how they were done when I received them from previous owner. All has been working fine but got to wondering if they were actually installed and wired correctly before. This is my first experience with such an application so how do I know if they are placed correctly although I followed the previous application? Is there a diagram? My only concern is that the starting battery is in the right place. I have onboard charger and also recently rebuilt alternator which got me to thinking. Make sense?

In my Searay manual there is a wiring diagram in the back. It may be worthwhile to find and download the one for your boat to verify the actual factory intent.

By "in the right place", do you mean it's "physical" placement in the bilge? There is no hard and fast rule for that. Do whatever floats your boat. If you're talking about the wiring, that's different. That can be wired up a couple different ways with the 2 DC's in parallel, or on separate circuits - also the type and number of battery switches you have will come into play. Assuming you have a single engine boat, the electrical schematics in the manual (while still very helpful) will not show a setup for (3) batteries.

Follow all of the wires from the batteries and make your own schematic.

It would be good to add which model Sea Ray you have.

Here's my 98.

Starboard engine battery sitting horizontal.

Port engine/Generator/House x2 sitting parallel.

Edit..... Oh didn't realize you only have one engine.

If the battery types are different and charged by the same charger. Then one the types is either over charged or under charged. Chargers have settings for battery types but not for charging different types under one bank charge. If you have separate banks of batteries not in a series. Then you can tell the charger for example.... bank one charge flood batteries and bank two charge AGM. But mixing batteries on the same bank will over kill one set and possibly under charge the other. Both resulting in shorter battery life. We all know batteries are expensive so maximizing the proper banks and charging is a must.
