I just hauled my boat for the winter. My question is about the little "pimple" banacles adhered to the running gear....I bought an angle grinder to sand them away. If you also do this task yourself, what do you use? I guess I'm interested in knowing if the grinder is not a good idea or a good idea? Which pad is the right or wrong one to use?

I find the best way to rid them from the shaft is to scrap them off by hand and then use emery cloth 60-80 grit and buff the shaft with that. Cloth over the shaft and buff with both hands. Comes out like new. I use a 4" grinder with heavy wire wheel for the strut(s) and rudder(s). Or I use too, after that prep I now use Propspeed on everything. You get a couple of years from that then do it all over again. Lots of work but worth it.

Scrape the most off, then wipe with On/Off or something similar. What's left after scraping will disappear.

Mary Kate is great stuff. However, make sure to wear gloves and use it out in the open. The fumes are nasty.

+1 That stuff has ~20% hydrochloric acid in it and phosphoric as well. Real nasty stuff, works amazingly well but use a respirator with it. It burns like hell if you get it on your skin, so goggles and gloves as well.
