No one else steps up, nothing gets done, finally some one says screw it we need to do something and here it is. As expected all the rest are bitchin' because it isn't the way they want. Most of us have probably seen this happen in other times and places.

Obama should have paraphrased a comment made by the police union representing Clevelands finest after the 137 shot cluster fck, 'Now see, see what you made me do'.:smt043

I was watching former US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales last night on TV. His comments about the Messiah's new gun control measures centered around the legality of him doing that. Gonzales felt that what he was doing is illegal. But what does he know, he was only the US Attorney General.

This may be your silliest comment yet, and you had some doozies. We do not have a dictatorship where "some one says screw it" it's my way or the highway. We have a representative republic that was just desecrated.

Something gets done by the consensus of the elected, he could have done ANYTHING he wanted in 2008-2009 and they did NOTHING on this issue. Why? Because even many Democrats don't want to overturn the constitution.

Hmmm, if I remember, in 2008 the US economy was in a tail spin. AIG was about to go belly up, Chevrolet and Chrysler declared bankruptcy, several major lending institutions were set to fail that might have sent the country (and most of the world) into a deep depression. Alex Station had been disbanded and the hunt for (we will never forget) Ben Ladin had been abandoned.
I am a second amendment advocate, and I own several guns. To me "gun control" is hitting what I shoot at. But Obama "could have done anything he wanted"??? Seriously?? My views are not as left of center as Woody, but I am on his team with this one. The Party of "no" has spent eight years with a platform that is simply anti-Obama. There have been many oppotunities to try and shore up the second amendment while allowing some common sense gun regulation. Do you really think fellons should be selling guns? Should people on the no-fly list or terrorist watch list be granted second amendment privilege? So, I s what Obama did dangerous and illegal ? Yes it is! Was it because he could not gather an ounce of help from Republicans? Yes it is. Woody is correct the Party of 'no' new idea's stuck on saying 'no' to anything Obama, is now saying 'no' to his last ditch attempt to shake loose some reasonable compromise. Don't get me wrong here. When Democrats are in office I am "rich" and they can think of a lot of ways to spend my money. When Republicans are in office I am "poor" and sucking up too many "entitlements". (which I feel I am entitled to, because they were included as part of my pay, or I have paid into them my whole life. That is why they call them freaking "entitlements"!) I really have no horse on this race. All politicians are pig***t.

Excuses do not change the fact Democrats had control the executive and both legislative houses and did NOTHING on this issue.

Wrong, they have only had power in the house since 2010.

    On this we agree...

You seem to be a bit aggressive.

I don't like Obama flexing his executive muscles either. But.....call this a doozie if you want....fact is the pro gun folks should have been leading the group with suggestion, offering legit help/solutions toward what we all agree is a problem, but nope. Could no one see that each shooting was bringing things closer to a clash. Apparently not and here we are.

You did nothing and at the same time don't like the fact some one else did. This was a huge chance for pro gunners, NRA, and Republicans to up their game and they missed it.

Wayne LaPierre is right. When we don't enforce the laws that are already on the books, what good is it going to do to pass more laws that won't be enforced.

The Democrats don't want to put felons, mentally Ill, etc. in a database, which would not infringe on someones constitutionally protected right. They would rather infringe on the rights of the public.

If by your definition of "did nothing" you mean restrict 2nd amendment rights, go ahead and blame them and me. That is all the gun fearing, therefore hating, liberals and the media define as "doing something".

    To much FOX "News",
Unless Conservatives can own where the Republican Party has gone off the tracks, the Liberals will win. And I do not mean the slightly left of Center guys like me. I mean the left lunatic fringe. Seriously, Donald Trump has 33 percent of the "Conservative" voters polled? If President Hillary is not enough of a wake up call, I can not think of a single thing to better illustrate how badly we need Conservative participation, ideas, and leadership.

No fly list is a big issue for me. My dad was put on the no fly list. He was a retired McDonnell Douglas engineer with years of security clearences from top secret to "need to know" black programs. Could not get him off the list no matter what we tried. Now because some dumbass government employee messed up he couldn't own a gun??!! How many others are in this situation? Typical Lib PC bull sh!t: Sacrafice the rights of the law abiding mentally stable to save the feelings of felons and the mentally ill. And before you get on me about being insensitive to mental illness, I have several relatives who suffer from it and I wouldn't want them to own a gun. My dad died in 2009 so it is a moot point for me, but still.

For the record, the republican house sent dozens of bills to the senate on issues ranging from guns to immigration reform and that dumb f**k Harry "I got my ass kicked by treadmill" Reid killed every one of them without a vote in the senate. So how does that make republicans the party of no?

    Here's another no-fly list anecdote.

A good friend of mine is an armed pilot for a major airline. He was put on the no fly list. He could fly the airplane with his HK on his hip and 200+ passengers in back, but he wasn't allowed to ride in coach to get to his job. It was a royal ***** for him for a few years.

No fly list = we control who we want armed. It's horrible what's happening and they keep turning up the heat but nobody jumps out of the pot.

Now in this statement you, unfortunately, are right. Hopefully, you are not a fan of MSNBC either as a counter. The party is losing their constituents, however, with that said the media is doing their best to make it so. Also, use caution with believing polls, they are a tool for that same media.

Can not watch MSNBC for the same reason I cannot stand FOX "News". BS gives me a headache. The "Media" is a two edged sword now. FOX News is about three or four times more popular than MSNBC and FOX beat out CNN as the most trusted Network!
You are correct that any common sense legislation is going to run fowl of a few citizens that should not be affected. I can not speak to the individual cases mentioned, but I totally believe both of them. Some petty functionary somewhere with a chip or a Napoleon complex.
I have been on the wrong end of that scenario and it sucks when it is you! Still am I to understand that you believe Harry Reid stopped some Republican bills for gun control??? Because if he did I have something to learn! What Bill numbers?? Also, is it your contention that fellons, and people on the terrorist watch list, or no-fly list SHOULD be allowed second amendment privileges?? Just trying to be sure I understand.

I know of no law that says people on no fly lists cannot purchase guns. Is there? There is no way for anyone citizen or not to recieve a day in court concerning their placement on the list in clear violation of the constitution. They should be able to buy guns until convicted of a crime.

I don't watch any TV news now but have in the past including network, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. I also like to read about media coverage and analysis. That said FOX News offers the broadest least biased news coverage on television. If you don't like their opinion shows that is your right but to siander their news because if it is wrong.

Felons have been through due process and should absolutely lose their 2nd amendment rights. No fly list and terror watch list are different. People included on those lists have not been through due process. Nor is there any transparent methodology for the government placing people on those lists. For instance, in Missouri known Tea Party members were placed on the terror watch list as were recently returned veterens under the guise of being "right wing fanatics" and "prone to form a militia". So yes, I do question denying people on those lists any of their constitutional rights until they are given due process and allowed to face thier accusers.

I sat down with a great person, he and his wife work for our government. Both are required to carry, both are sworn to uphold the laws. As we enjoyed our dinner we talked of what our grand olde lame duck had to say. The actions he took are the same laws that have been in place for many years now. He took a law that has been in place since the late 60's. He basically changed a few words and added more drama, cried a few tears then made it out as he and his party are going to save us from those evil gun owners.

Now the the things he would like to see changed.
    1) A data base for anyone from the age of 16 to death that has had any meds for mental health. At this time there is no way to look for any mental health issues. His example, John Hinckley could go buy a gun legally if he wasn't so well know. How you ask? Background checks and those that do them are not allowed to look into any medical records. There is no mental health data base! It would be against that persons civil liberties to allow those medical records to be seen, but how many lives would it have saved?
    2) Prosecute all those that are found to be doing straw buys.
    3) Ask gun owners (don't tell) to place a gps locator in the firearm. Stolen firearms could be traced and found. Each owner and only the owner could activate the locator. Kinda like a locator for your IPAD or phone.

Im sure many of you would be against these changes but think about this, when you have a problem with your boat you find the root of the problem and fix it. You don't go and find the bent rod without finding out how the rod got bent in the first place.

The guns I own and the guns I sell are done legally. I have always had a background check done. Most every person that I know does the same thing. Many are listed on sites like require both the seller and buyer to get checked out. And all the firearms my father had, he had every serial number, he listed who he bought the gun from and when he sold the gun he listed who he sold the gun to and their phone number. When a gun was brought to him for repairs he used his gut feelings and if things didn't really add up he ran the serial number. He had a few stolen guns go thru the shop and he had an officer who would come to the shop when the gun was to be picked up.

What do you know! I pretty much agree with that whole thing, as written
Some good stuff in the post by dwna1a as well. I agree there is room for common sense gun regulation. And I agree that the second amendment is important and should be protected as we hammer out improvements in our gun laws.
The Media and Donald Trump are selling "Hate" as an American value, but I think we are all better served looking for common ground, than buying into the fairy tale that anyone who disagrees with us is an "idiot", or "trying to ruin the Country". Turns out that it is possible for reasonable, well educated people to disagree. In this country we can do that and not get nailed to a tree. Welcome to the USA. In fact, God help us if we all start thinking exactly the same on every issue!!
