Ballpark insurance rate expectations?

This may be a dumb question, but when we talk of boating experience, do we only count boat ownership years? I have just purchased my first boat in the spring of this year, however I have been around my dad's boats (16 ft to 33ft over the years) all my life, actively driving, docking, trailering and some light maintenance. Does any of this count or they only take into account how long I have owned my own boat?

PS. sorry to hijack the thread.

I think the question and resulting answer is too ambiguous to really say yes or no. In addition, the more I live, the more I notice there are many many people who do things wrong for as many years as they have experience. :smt001

Best barometer of true experience is knowledge and how that knowledge is actually applied or passed on to others.

Don't skimp on the coverage to much. I have extra towing and salvage coverage. The cost of hiring a salvage crew to recover the boat can get expensive. Its just like on your home owner insurance, basic coverage doesn't include demolition and clean up after a total loss fire in most cases.
