Anyone know if a raymarine axium is plug and play on my 08 310da?
The da has vessel view but I’m not real sure if that uses nmea 0183 or 2000. The axium uses seatalk ng. The raymarine sales guy at the boat show wasn’t real helpful.

Axiom is nmea 2000. Axiom pro I believe has
Nmea 0183 also. Seatalkng is just Raymarine's nmea 2000 with a different plug.
You can get a adapter. If you just want to sea smartcraft data on the axiom you need a gateway and nmea 2000 backbone(network) plan on spending an additional $500 or so for components.

Looks like the eci-100 interface connects directly to the axiom and to the can bus. I’m just not sure where to locate the place to connect to the can bus. Behind my dash I see connectors and junction boxes for my smart craft gauges and vessel view, is this the can bus?

Your gonna need one of these.

There is a little more to the difference. Yes, the pin out on the plugs is different. In addition, the STNG cabling carries additional wires to support SeaTalk 1 devices.

Because of the wiring differences between the two, connecting a nmea2000 and STNG requires a third party adapter, or the installer to build a connector cable by splicing a nmea2000 to a STNG. My understanding from Raymarine is that they do not have an adapter to connect the two.

My question would be plug and play for what ? If you are talking about engine data then you will need a convertor as mentioned above. If you are talking about anything else that may have been installed that would be a different matter. So things like existing transducers or radar.

I figured since vessel view can show engine data, depth, gps, speed that I could get same info on axiom by connecting it to the same bus. Apparently not.

Do any other chart manuf connect any easier?

You can get all the smartcraft functionality from nmea 2000 with the gateway above.
The axiom power cord has a standard nmea 2000 connector split off. If you want to network other raymarine products via nmea 2000 you need the stng Adapters. The axiom has the gps built into it.

Any mfg you choose will require a gateway or vesselview link module to get engine data. Simrad has a built in vv app as the vv branded units are built by them for mercury.

Thanks Craig. Not having luck with that part#. Looks like 8m0151748 is current number?

Where would that connect? Seems to me my sc gauges have those plugs which would be right next to my axiom.

honestly for $445 I’d probably pass until the vv goes bad someday.

Not necessarily is a separate converter needed - If the Vessel View, which is Smartcraft integrated, has a NMEA2000 port then it provides the engine data (and the CAN H data) to the NMEA 2000 network and anything else connected to it.
And, I don't believe that converter will return any data from the Seatalk CAN H or CAN V; it only returns data from CAN P (engine only data).

Newer VV (simrad)models have nmea 2000 available through the supplied link module that comes with the kit. The MFD does not have sc nmea 2000 integrated.
The link module also drives the sc1000 analog guages with no lcd readouts if you have sc5000 display. The gateway does not.

All the older System view sc5000 and sc1000 analog guages with lcd require the gateway at minimum to convert to nmea 2000. I learned this from Mercury when I installed my vv502 to replace the sc5000.
