This past weekend I was tied up to a bigger cruiser, all of the suddedn we were hit with a wake, the midship cleat looked and sounded like it was about to be yanked out :smt089 . Should I be concerend about damage to the structure of the hull

Is there any cracking in the gelcoat around the cleat? Is there any other damage down that side of the hull? I've had this happen to me and the two boats actually came together due to the severe rocking. Got a couple of gouges in my gelcoat I had to have repaired. Didn't hurt the area around the cleat at all, just in the spots where the two boats touched. (or should I say slammed together) :smt013

N. Texas, Lake Texoma. After we got back to the docks, I personally tugged in the cleat and felt and looked sound. There is no cracking in the gelcoat, just sounded like it.

Are you sure the sound came from that particular cleat? I would inspect the whole side of the boat that was tied up to the cruiser. What model boat do you have?

Check the bolts that hold the cleat around them - I bet the cleat slid a bit.

I may have been the sound between the hull and cabin top where they mate squeeking like grinding teeth. You may have been lucky that nothing structural has occured but like is mentioned above triple check the bolts and area with 18" around there for any anomolies
I Hope everything's OK!

Hope there is not too much damage. Did you by chance get a visual of the boat that caused the wake? They are responsible for any damage.

Lucky Dogs.... port or starboard cleat.... I have accessed both.

Ah heck.... I will just describe both. These guys like my long winded crap anyway.... yeah right.

Port - In the mid-cabin cabinet... stick your head in and look up.... you will see 2 vinyl covered panels that are screwed in at 4 places each at an angle. Pull those guys off and then look up (you may need to tape the excess ceiling material (foam backed vinyl) so you can see. up there. You will see the cleat bolts and reinforcement easily. You will need a flashlight. No good pix of port side.

Starboard - The vinyl covered wall at the foot or starboard end of the mid-cabin needs to be removed. Four screws in the corners behind the color matched screw caps. The wall is a tight fit but will slide out. This is what it will look like when the panel is off...

I am fairly certain that the cleat is above this area.... I will go take a look.... I was not into this area to look at the cleat :smt001

BONUS material.... see the black wire hanging to the "floor" on the right side. This is the pre-wired subwoofer wire.... so if you were interested in upgrading your sound system..... there is your sub line :smt001

NOTE: The construction junk that you see in the picture was quickly cleaned up after this photo... I was surprised to see the amount of construction mess left behind.... granted... 99.9% of 280 owners will likely never pull this panel off.

Hope this helps

Ok, i'm pulling panels off this weekend to take a look. I have a leak which I think is from the bolster bolts that you posted awhile back, when I wash the cockpit. if there is a subwoofer wire hanging there, you get a big kiss from my K9.

Mike

TT there are several places that are leak challenged on the 280 for those that wash and hose their cockpit like you and I do... a little off topic for this one.... if you like... please start a new topic and I will post pics in detail.... and more long winded stuff if you would like me to.

TT, Don't hold your breath on that wire for the sub... I don't think it was an option in 03. I could be mistaken but I don't remember seeing that option available back then. :smt009
