Curious what others may have paid lately. I've had quotes from $235 a foot to $300. Not trying to be cheap, but want to see what others may experience for good quality work.

    Thx

How big of a boat. It’s quite a bit different painting a 50 footer vs a 25 footer.

If you are talking about the 370 in your profile, around here the Boston area it would run around 16k plus any glass repairs needed.

$250-$300 a foot is about normal.

I just got a quote yesterday to paint the hull, This is with the boat in the water.
$ 400.00 a foot and needs to see it out of the water to firm up the price.

Awlgrip is a very nice product. It’s also very hard to work with compared to awlcraft. Around here we have difficulty with finding a paint booth and painting outside with awl grip isn’t a good option. Awlcraft can be sprayed outside because it’s easily repaired and blended so we use that more often. To be clear, if we had a perfect spot we would use awlgrip more.

That being the case of you wanted awlgrip on your 370, I would bid it around 400/ft for a single color but could do awlcraft for 25% less.

Don’t forget the details when/if you decide to do this. Do you want a stripe, do you need new bottom paint, do you want custom touches such as Sea Ray painted in the boot stripe…etc. then the haul and block while it’s out and the wash and wax when it goes back in. When I bid these jobs I always give a price in total so when a Customer gets the boat back it’s what they expect.

Painting a boat is as much about experience and quality as the cost. Similar to cars you can get a 999.00 mako spray and go but you likely wouldn’t want it.

Rub rail coming off? Portlights coming out? Inserts, vents, and through hulls removed?
Prep is everything and that is where the cost is appropriate.

Good post^. Side note. If you do paint it order a couple extra vents and have the painter paint them as spares. We typically replace thru hulls with stainless at the time as well so there’s a cost and they are tough to find at the moment with all the back orders.

Call Rappahannock Yacht Works if you are on the Bay. They were incredible to work with (albeit 12 years ago) and see what they recommend.

Mako $999! I remember when Earl Scheib was $29.99. Shout out from any old Clevelanders?

Didn't realize Earl was "coast to coast". My father had a few cars painted by them. I remember helping him prep the car so the paint job came out better the just the standard paint job you'd get for $29.99

Actually wasn’t it that they’d paint any car for $99.95?

I think in the beginning it may been $19.95 and of course as time went on it went up. I wonder when they went out of business?

    Thanks all for the replies,

I settled on a quote for $220 per foot (prep, labor & material) with a shop that specializes in just boat painting. I shopped around A lot and had quotes up to $400 per foot. And interestingly most were willing to negotiate off of their initial quote which tells me that they will charge whatever the customers will pay.

Not to side with anyone, but wraps do come out well on boats. My friends 72 Sunseeker is wrapped and looks awesome. A bit less work and a bit less prep.
