Has anyone seen or tried to mount an auxiliary outboard on the swim platform of a 225 Weekender? My 2003 has a swim platform that is like a half moon or very rounded. I believe a horizontal mount like the one in the link below would work if mounted in the middle of the platform. The motor I plan on using is a 6hp 59 pound 4 stroke. This particular product from Garelick is rated for motors much larger plus when I consider the weight of two or three adults standing on the platform leads me to believe the platform can hold a 59 lb outboard and deal with the thrust.

Go for it. Add a good sized backer plate for good measures. The only thing you'll want to double check on (since that's a stationary bracket) is if the motor will drop far enough down into the water. I think you're right, but also double check that the outdrive is tucked back far enough.

I'm buying some 1/4 inch stainless plate steel to use as a backer under the platform. If I get this installed I will post pictures. I am purchasing a 20" long shaft 6 hp Tohatsu so the height of the engine should be fine. The outdrive is tucked away well forward of the rear of the swim platform. On 225 Weekenders the swim platform sticks out a long way in the middle. As I said it's shaped like a half moon to the sides curve back in.

Either with a tiller handle extension while I stand or sit inside the boat or by tightening the tension adjustment on the aux motor then using the outdrive as a rudder. This aux motor will be used primarily for trolling. I do not anticipate it requiring a lot of steering. We currently use a 50lb thrust electric MinnKota on my son's boat in this fashion and it works great, until the battery drains! We want to troll for hours sometimes and using the MinnKota on high to move along at trolling speed uses up battery reserve quickly.
