I have a Formula 350CBR with 16 JL Audio M6 speakers and a 10 inch JL Audio sub, an M600/6 amp and an M400/4 amp with an PMX3 Rockford Fosgate Head unit. The sound is clear but feels tinny. I was thinking of adding a monoblock amp for the sub. Is that a good idea? Any other suggestions? I am new to this stuff. I never realized how much there was to it.

The Rockford does have a 7 channel EQ. I plan to tinker with it some more but I still think it will be too weak. I agree 1 sub is not enough.

Also you can adjust the gain but I heard that can potentially damage your speakers.

One 10" sub is not enough for 16 speakers IMO.

Agreed. And I will add that there are too many speakers for the current amps, much less to drive a sub.

The M6 speakers need 100 W per speaker to get good sound. You need 14 channels just to run the speakers at optimum unless you were going to reduce the ohms in them that in turn increases power consumption from the batteries.

Many of my friends are connecting their cabin speakers on boats similar to yours direct to the head unit and reserving the amp for the cockpit speakers.

I would definitely get a 600 W monoblock amp and a second subwoofer for your set up.

As for adjusting the sound the JL amps have adjustments as to what frequencies you are sending to the speakers. You might want to have someone who is very knowledgeable and audio systems look and see exactly what you are sending to your speakers.
