Audi of America President: GM’s Volt as “a car for idiots"

Guess there wont be any GM audi joint ventures any time soon.......

The Volt is basically crap. they started advertising that it would go 200 miles on a charge now they advertise 35 miles. Good idea, bad engineering...

Hmmmmmm. GM Volt. Is this another fine example of American car manufacturer's wonderful engineering? And people on here (and elsewhere) criticize those of us who buy/drive/enjoy our foreign badged cars. Tell me again why I should buy American cars?

I find it amusing that the Volt keeps bursting into flames, due to the battery overheating. Now they are going to switch batteries to one that not only stores less power, it's also bigger and heavier, which means an already pathetic car will get worse.

As for the idiot thing, I've been calling liberals idiots for years now, so I don't have any beef what so ever with the comments made in the article about those who purchase Volts.

This guy is dead on pertaining to why liberals want to buy them: “They’re for the intellectual elite who want to show what enlightened souls they are,”.

This is where you and I get to open our wallets: "The Audi of America president ended with a bold prediction: The Volt will fall flat. And the federal government, having publicly forced GM to develop electric cars, will subsidize the Volt to save face and boost sales."

I'd still rather support GM, Ford, and Chyrsler than any of the others........................... GM still makes my favorite two vehicles, Truck and the "BEST SPORTSCAR" ever, CORVETTE!!!! So go ahead a support the foreign guys, I choose not too!!!!!

Better check that content report, they may not be as made in the USA as you hope they are. I have always been a GM vehicle supporter and purchaser, I just do not like the way they do business now. MM

I don't need to check S@#@!! I know they aren't , as i hope, but what makes me sick is people that ***** about the USA on one hand then go buy a foreign car on the other!! You, MM, have way too much time on your hands, just like others have said!! I think you should run for "PRESIDENT", as you have all the answers......................

Now now... I really want one of these:

American electric car... (albeit a lotus body). It'll kick your stupid little corvette.

It shows what a non-union entrepreneurial company can do versus a company high-jacked by union thugs.

Yea - I'm with you - It's not a corvette, but it's on a C6 chassis:
This is my Obama econo box - it gets 28 MPG...

Heck, I would take one of those as well. I suspect the Volt is a little cheaper.

The Admiral's Toyota was made in Georgia. My Mustang was made in Canada.

I was in the car market two years ago. . .frankly the American cars (rebates and all) just seemed overpriced compared to the Foreign badged cars.

My Mustang is now fairly old; with the prices they want for new Mustang convertabiles, BMW and Audi have pretty compelling alternatives.

I am with you Mike,

I have been buying cars for the last 35 years. My daily drivers have been the following. First car was a 67 Chevy Impala, then a 70 Chevy Chevelle, then a 63 Chevy II, then a 66 Chevy II, then a 72 Corvette, then a 67 Chevy II, then a Toyota 4x4 pickup, then a 85 Monte Carlo SS, then several different S-10 pickups modified in various ways, then various fullsize chevy pickups, then a GMC Denali, and then I finally said screw it and I bought a 2011 VW TDI (diesel) Jetta sport wagon. It is the best car I have ever owned. I get 45 MPG without even trying. The fit is finish is over the top compared to any prior car. Damn Germans. The Monte Carlo SS was the biggest pile of crap I ever owned. Could not believe the quality of the car. So I would say I gave GM their chance and they blew it. My daily drivers now are either the Jetta or a Ford Super Duty Dually diesel. Diesel is the way to go. Can't wait for the snow to fall so I can push snow with my Kubota Diesel Tractor.

I bet you wake up suddenly in the middle of the night, having NIGHTMARE'S about Unions Fore Skin.............. I'm glad to be of help!!!!!:smt043:lol:

Hey guys we should want more and more folks to buy these because it leaves more gas for our boats. If someone wants to buy this fine - while not for me not going to criticize people that buy them or an Escalade. Don't care for either of them.

Now I have to sell my Corvette...

I try to buy American when it is the best value and meets my expectations. I have owned 4 American SUV's and currently have a GMC Denali. But I have not found an American made car that meets my expectations. I do like the Corvette but that would just be a toy. As for being the best sportscar ever, no way IMHO. Great value though for what you get. I have rented several American cars while on business and vacation and all were pieces of crap, again IMHO. Cheap interiors, poor fit and finish and void of any tasteful design. I'll take my BMW any day. A few years ago I went out and bought myself a Harley and was so proud to finally afford an American made icon such as HD. While adding some minor modifications I was changing out the license plate bracket and what I found pissed me off. The OEM bracket had a sticker attached and this is what it read, " Made in China ". So if you are all about buying American, do your research to find out if it is truly made in America. I would rather have a BMW made in Spartanburg than a Cadillac assembled in Mexico. At least American workers are employed and feeding the economy. By the way, Volt was voted by Motor Trend as Car of the Year. What a joke! Totally tied to the BS coming out of Washington. I will no longer read that magazine.

I own a BMW and a Mercedes - I have had a new Ford Focus as a rental car. For an entry level car it was nice. This one had leather, sunroof and nice wheels. Back in the day. I had a Taurus SHO - I loved that car. When I went to trade it in - people were bidding on it while I was trying to work a deal. Loved the SHO. Seems like the American Companies are trying. For some reason - I keeping eyeing a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

The Audi president is right on. The European Diesels are amazing, basically erase the need for hybrids or electrics unless you are city bound.

As far as best Sports Car, my vote is for Porsche. I have a 993 C2 911 and a Twin Turbo 997 911, best cars I have ever owned. Best engineered cars IMO and most reliable, I had 2 Vetts awhile back and let's say they were not very reliable.

Another interesting fact about electric autos is the refill time. How long does it take to recharge an electric car vs. refill the fuel tank? Physics & chemistry dictate that electric energy storage (battery, capacitor) is multiple orders of magnitude (powers of 10 for you non-engineering types) lower than chemical energy capacity, which is multiple orders of magnitude less than nuclear.

BTW the Audi president is also right on about the US power grid.
