I am not a particularly deft captain. Every bit of information available will improve my chances of reaching my destination with a minimum of damage. With that in mind, I decided to add an anemometer. The Only Mate called for a vote, and in a close contest, my choice lost. Sticking to my guns, I decided instead to add a burgee to provide some wind information (licking my finger and sticking it in the air proved ineffective at the helm). My choice was the CSR burgee proudly displayed by my dockmate, Windjammer...and a couple other Allatoona boaters. The Only Mate called for a vote, and in a close contest...my choice lost.

She wanted something to match the boat, and tracked down Dream Boat Plus...a woman who apparently does these by hand. We ordered it, it is exceptionally well made, very nicely embroidered on both sides in several colors, and nicely hemmed. You can't tell from these views, but this is done on both sides, so that it is readable both ways.

I ordered a front pole, but it hasn't gotten here yet, so I used an old one to see how it looks...

If there are sponsors who do this, please support them. If you have a less demanding Only Mate, a CSR burgee would have been more than sufficient. If none of the first two apply, I recommend Carol highly. Her email is DreamBoat [dbbplus@comcast.net] and her online store is here http://www.dreamboatplusauctiva.com/ (update...try www.dreamboatplus.com)

Here is the sheath (condom) for the burgee in a Sunbrella black. Our seamstress did them for about $20

Rear sewn flag on a Taylormade 30" pole (probably a little smaller than prescribed, but we can get around it on tie ups)

And its sheath (condom)

Price, including shipping and custom artwork was less than $60 however, check pricing etc., yourself for your own boat if interested.

I'd love to see the vote counts... Your description of the vote is excellent, and makes me think your vote counted as much as mine did on the dicey "should we buy a pony" debate...

Sorry to hear your mate keeps your manhood in a jar. Nice Burgee...did it come with a doily for the cockpit table?

You pretty much pegged it. However, I have my limits. For example, I drew the line at her monogramming my man-purse.

for a second i thought you were gonna say mammograming something, whew !!

First of all, remember, pick your battles. This is the sign of a truly wise Captain, and husband. Give up the burgee, and act like it really hurt. Then, go for something you really want.

This one isn't worth going to war over. The wind is going to take its toll on the little flaggie thing from the embriodery lady. It will look faded, dog eared and be unravelling soon enough. Go ahead and find another one you like and keep it safe. When the pretty one gets ragged, switch 'em out and hand the wife's choice to her and say, "We need a do-over, but I have one to use in the meantime. try to get her to make one that won't come apart".

My guess is that when she handles the leg work and deals with the flag lady to try to get a design that the wind won't whip apart, you'll be good for quite a while.

Wash it in a ton of bleach before using it, and what Frank said will happen twice as fast... Not to be a troublemaker or anything...

my CSR burgee is just beginning the 3rd season and it's shot. These things are like flip flops, where them one season and get some new ones.
