Has anyone done this trip in a boat about 13' high with a 3' draft?

I count 7 bridges, 3 of which I'd need open, one of which is a CLOSE call. The other 3 are no problem.

Specific questions:
1. how are depths, channel markers and accuracy of those channel markers?
2. no wake zones? Whole way, part of the way? Looks to be about 11 miles - realistically, how long does that 11 mile trip take assuming you make all your bridge connections.
3. Margate Bridge - this is the close-call, and one of the boats I'm traveling with can't make it without an opening. 14' at MHW. No info on Active Captain about when it opens. It is a bascule so it must open.
4. HOW BAD ARE THE GREENHEADS??!!!

Thanks for any advice. Active Captain is helpful but it seems that since Garmin re-did the site, all the old info was wiped. I know b/c anything I posted there is gone. That's years and years of local knowledge that now needs to be rebuilt. This is a bad-weather backup for me - the plan is to exit Absecon Inlet and enter Great Egg Harbor Inlet.

The depths aren’t a problem as long as you stay in the channel and it is accurately marked. Most of the way is no wake unfortunately and it will take you about an hour, not counting any wait for bridges. The Margate Bridge does open and I believe it opens on signal. I’ve never had a problem with the Greenheads. Nothing like Brigantine, the home of the Greenhead!

Hey Ron,,, I came up from Cape May inside a few years ago. Bridge's notwithstanding, it was kinda a pita. LOTS of no wake zones , which is ok, but the ICW was very narrow and shallow in a lot of spots. Biggest pita was the NJ Transit railroad bridge by the AC Convention center. They only open it on the hour, which I didn't know. Ended up just putting in circles for more than 45 minutes. So, look for info regarding that. If you're in no hurry its ok. Have a good trip. Hope to see y'all in July in AC.

Great info guys. Thank you! Mitch, that's a really good table to have. Garry, I WILL be seeing you July 13th, right!

So there's only one rail bridge, and it's normally CLOSED?

Hey Ron ,, looks like the info Mitch gave is good intel. Yes there's only 1 rail bridge right next to the US 30 hwy. bridge. you might want to check with NJ Transit as your trip gets closer. The Admiral (Gwen) has foot surgery on 6-14, gonna be laid up for awhile. Regardless , I will try and make it to AC even if its just for the afternoon on friday. Take care !

Garry, SPEEDY recovery to Gwen (in advance!). Really hope you guys can make it. I'll dig a bit deeper, but my contact who lives on the water just south of that bridge says it normally open and maybe you got stuck there b/c of some maintenance they were doing.

The railroad bridge is normally open. It closes as trains near the station but that is normally a quick process. If it is closed, it will open on demand pending train access. They do answer ch. 13. They can also be reached @ (609) 343-6769

Thanks!

Hello, Ron. Give me a call on my cell 908-499-0331
I have all of the bridge times and I can give you some tips.
Kevin

Kevin, my plan is to NOT go that route, but weather may tell me otherwise. I'll see you in AC and we can chat...we're heading down to OC Sunday July 15th and I'll know by then which route I'll have to take. Would MUCH rather go outside!

Thanks!!

Hi guys!
I am very sorry to hijack this thread but I figured you guys would be the best people to ask about the condition of great egg inlet.
I am planning to enter the inlet this coming Saturday from little egg but I have never navigate this inlet before.
I hope you guys can help me.
Thanks again.

Entered and exited last week. Well marked, very easy to negotiate. Where are you headed once in?

We stayed at Seaview Harbor which is a fantastic place - resort-like. We rented a car from Enterprise to get around. Really nice pool, restaurant on premises is very good. I think next time we'll stay at Harbor Cove - walk to restaurants and bars, also has a pool.

Stayed at All Seasons a few years back. More of a working boat-yard environment but very nice people and marina.

If you're going to get to the beach pay the extra $5/day for the beach badge and go to Margate City.

There's a way to approach Seaview from the inlet. Mary will tell you about it.

Not sure if there are any transient slips in our marina (Seaview Harbor) but Mary will be able to tell you. (Let me know if you strike out with her and I'll check around with some dockmates who may be out this weekend.)
As far as the inlet, easy to navigate unless the weather is really bad. Stay between the cans which are in the correct positions this season. Avoid the breakers to the north (they are visible) and don't get too close to the Ocean City side (green cans on south side) as it shoals out very far from the beach. Once in, you'll go down and around the 5 can on the North side (longport). Don't cut through directly into the marina as there are some low spots in the bay outside the marina. Don't be out at dead low tide anywhere around here really.

She had 3 of us on G dock last week. But we called back in February to set it up.

Oh great!! Now you got me worried.
It looks like my ETA will be around 3pm on Saturday which it will be dead low tide.
I can’t really adjust my timing either as I will be cruising from upper Barnegat Bay some 3 hours away.
Can I get to seaview at low tide?
Mary got me on G dock.
