Atlantic City Rendezvous 2010

Having done team inside last year, I vote for option number 2

The inside route basically is hell. There are tons of little fishing boats all over the channels. I followed Gale Winds last year and he cruises at like 35kts which makes dodging the fishing boats interesting.

I would like to go inside - never been. BUT I can't keep up with the team so I'll likely again be leading "Team Pokey" - down ICW and out LEI. FrankC, I may still have my name tags from last year - I'm a big tree hugger type and would like to recycle ;-)

Rod, you're not allowed to serve crap that got stuck in your intake on the way down. Please bring real food.

I think we need someone to go in and out both before the trip and report back.

Rod, don't listen to Ron. I don't mind sea strainer garnish on tuna. Rumor has it that there will be one of the infrared cooker thingys there so he can sear his tuna.

This cartography is from 2008. The areas in red are the low shoaling areas.

Here is Barnegate - The red circled said 3'-6' through the inlet.

Here is Little Egg - From what I've been told, it's even worse this year. Many boats have been caught up here.

That inlet is ever-changing b/c it's not jettied. They do mark it and I have a track from last year (used the inlet 4x in 2009). The man to ask is EKM (Ed, you monitoring??)

Yeah Ron, I have my track saved as well. I plotted it on Mapsource and downloaded it to my plotter. The one thing going for me last year was I went out at high tide.

I can do that again. Easy enough to run them of the Xerox 6250DP color laser at home. Just like last year, I'll need first name of each attendee, boat name, and boat model designation.

Best regards,
Frank

Thanks Frank.

Same info for me. However, Paul and Olga will be on their sailboat "Danianna".

BTW....any consideration to a Convoy heading south from the Barnegat Bay/Toms River area?

Three routes would be:

1: South along the ICW then outside Barnegat Inlet and back in the Absecon Inlet.
2: South along the ICW then outside Little Egg Inlet and back in the Absecon Inlet.
3: South along the ICW the entire route.

From a time and distance percpective, in all my years of going to AC/Farley State Marina, there is no real difference in time or distance....it's just a matter of preference.

I personally prefer option # 2 down and option # 1 (in reverse) home.

Jost like Dom, I vote for option # 2 down and option # 1 (in reverse) home.

I can confirm 3-6 in barnegate, if you stay to the north side, but not too north.

I know Barnegat has bad rap... But it has two jetties... We will be going out on a Friday without a lot of traffic... Last year when we went out LIH inlet I went airborne twice and spun my props... A lot depends on the weather... If it is small craft advisories, I vote for inside all the way... If not, I vote out the Barnegat and in Absecon... Look at this inlet... You can go out in a row boat:

Fri July23 Hi tide at Little Sheepshead Creek is 07:02,
Sunday July 25 Hi tide is 08:37.
I usually try to go at high tide as well. In this case we'll miss it by a few hours, but it won't be dead low

Regarding Barnegat, if you avoid east winds with an outgoing tide you'll be fine. You have to figure on wind with an east component unless it's 95 degrees. You're going to be hitting an outgoing tide on Friday morning and high tide on Sunday is around 08:00.

Personally, that's too long and boring a run for me - kinda like driving the Turnpike. The trip from down along LBI is more interesting and Lord knows I am in no hurry!

I agree that LEI requires a lot more attention than BI. But at the time we go it's usually well marked.

The only thing I would change from last year is when heading out from LEI is go slowers. We cought few huge rollers at while trying to keep up with the group the bow slammed hard twice. We were not the only boat that had this problem. When I was going thru the inlet later in the season I was cought in much worst conditions, but choosing the right speed gave me comfortable pass untill I got to the deeper water.

I guess as long as the weather is ok, I'll be on the outside the whole way again. It is a little boring, but I can kick back and run on autopilot. What time are you guys planning on arriving?

For this trip, boring is good. the alternative is crazy fishing boats cutting in front of you with 6" of water on each side of you as you zig zag through green head fly marshland.

You make that sound so appealing...

I guess last year it wasn't so boring, on the way down, had a bunch of people get sick, on the way home I almost sunk. :wow:
