Atlantic City Rendezvous 2010

Here I am setting up my seminar "your shoe and you".

It was a huge hit.

Why is it that some people always think the picture is "about them" and have to LEAN over and mess up the auto focus on the camera?

What I've learned on this trip.....

Mudslides are good!!!!!!! I want to see a seminar tutored by Consuela.

So... most of the group has left. The diesel snob group had a captain's meeting on F-Dock this morning:

And while this was going on, Mike whispered something in Pigdog's ear and he went down to my boat:

I have no idea who this person is (don't think she was in our group) but this seems to be the whole new rage here in Atlantic City:

I did not take this picture... really... some other CSR member brought it by this morning.

Well, left AC at 9am and popped into Ocean City, MD for a splash of fuel. Had to replace the ring terminal on the port alternator since it stopped charging the port batteries halfway across the Hellaware Bay.

Grabbed lunch and heading out of Ocean City, MD now.

PS

Some gasser snuck into your Diesel Snobs Captain's meeting this morning.

I was down in the engine room doing some checks/work here in AC and damn!!!!

AT 440 PM EDT...A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WAS REPORTED CAPABLE
OF PRODUCING GOLF BALL SIZE HAIL...AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF
70 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM
VENTNOR CITY TO SEA ISLE CITY TO NORTH WILDWOOD...OR ALONG A LINE
EXTENDING FROM ATLANTIC CITY TO 18 MILES SOUTHWEST OF ATLANTIC CITY
TO 6 MILES NORTHEAST OF CAPE MAY...MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 45 MPH.

Hope everyone got home safe... I'm hanging out down below in the front stateroom hoping to not get hit with lightning.

Great job by everyone. Food was great, weather was extremely cooperative for safe passages, and the company was without equal. Team Pokey made it home without incident.

I actually passed a few boats today! Among them was The Cornelia Maria here...

It's amazing how pictures don't show the conditions out there today. Not that it was bad but the inlet was pretty bouncy going out and you wouldn't know it from the pix.

How's this for a beauty-shot of Corona Del Mar out on the Atlantic? My 13yo daughter took it and is extemely proud of her work...

Turtle blew by me on his way north. We were driving home (in the car) and listening to the Yankee game, which was halted at around 3pm for severe weather. I figure that 5 hours into his journey, he was safetly out of the ocean but in the vicinity of Manhattan - hopefully not too affected by the storms...

Note to self - avoid this friggin inlet at all costs. Navigability? no problem; wave action? no problem; traffic, fuggeddabodit. The word that comes to mind is bedlam. Sorry no pix - I couldn't peel my left hand off the wheel and my right off the throttles. Staying out in the ocean shaved 30 minutes from the trip, cost me an extra 14 gallons of gas, added 3 additional miles and Barnegat Inlet subtracted 3 years of my life. The lighthouse is gorgeous though...

I think Gary lived here for a while when he first got married...

That's about it for my stills. Thankfully we had many other pros snapping away all weekend. Video to follow.

These guys just came by and look really shook up:

Just pulled in, we got nailed by the storm. 50mph winds hit us as we were going through hells gate. The VHF lit up with boats sinking, people being thrown overboard. We joined a search for 4 people in the water by the throgsneck bridge, a boat in front of us pulled them out in 6kt current. Then we had to dodge all the barges coming in for cover. Even the barges were calling in people overboard.

I saw the clouds drop in an instant and we put up all the canvas. I looked for a place to stay while the cell pasted over us but no place to hold position in the east river, so I throttled to 2k rpms so I could control the boat. When the wind hit, I had to put the wheel hard over to stay in place.

Why do I always get caught in freak storms?

We've got some pics I'll post later. There are still people missing in the sound. I hope they find them, but they had no pfds on and that water was hell.

Crazy storm! I got out of there at the perfect time.

Great event! It was nice meeting people again this year. Thanks everyone for a great turn out, good conversation, and wonderful food.

Oh yeah - that finger was directed (good naturedly) at the paparazzi with the floppy hat and the porcine canine. :) Probably wind up in The Enquirer.

This same system caused hell all around our parts yesterday. Just 20 miles south of Buffalo, there were hundreds of lightning strikes and 4 reports of tornadoes.

My wife and I are looking for a diesel boat. So we're diesel snob wannabes. Interestingly enough Capt Frank H exactly at moment was mentioning a 410DA that he thinks might be available...

And while this was going on, Mike whispered something in Pigdog's ear and he went down to my boat:

She. Pig dog is a she. It she were a he, then he would have lifted and would have hit the spot. Whatever spot that Mike suggested...

Excuse me, Miss. Would you mind posing for a picture with this torn, chewed up dog toy stuffed down your top?

On the other hand, it should be one happy dog toy. So why is it so limp? Oh that's right, it's winglss, that is, it has no wings..

What a great shot Ron, my compliments to the photographer. We had a great time, and look foward to seeing everyone again next year.

Look at you mugging for the camera! I think you need to get a S.A.G. card for all that air-time ;-)
