hello gents !

i installed the atc on my 2006 240 sundancer and it never worked right for this boat , my atc tries to correct in a way that appears to be wrong for the 240 and i,m wondering if its do by design or if i,m doing something wrong

the 240 is pretty sensitive to tab input and the only way i found out for a stable ride is to take off with no tabs at all and start immediately to trim up when she starts to plane .

on plane use tabs only very carefully to correct list and the best way to react if she starts to list to the other side after tab input is not to use the opposite tab but to retract again slightly the tab you used .

too much tabs results the stern lifts to much , the 240 looses stability and will list hard over.

to prevent my atc trying to push the nose down with the described results i have set zero point pretty bow up but nevertheless after take off the atc tries to "make it better than good" and deploys a tab for an adjustment.

since the 240 at speed is like said very sensitive to tab input it overreacts bringing her into a list . then it tries to counterreact deploying the other tab instead of retracting the one it used - with now more and more tabs deployed both sides exessive stern lift begins and thats a no go for a 240.

in short terms my atc tries to cure it self made problem of overreaction by lowering the opposite tab and it ends after a short time both tabs are deployed to much .

i found out my port tab lowers a bit faster than my stb - can this confuse the system as well ?

A few things to start:

1. I have to ask just to make sure, when you push the "right hand" manual Trim Tab switch which side moves.

2. Are you turning the ATC on before your hole shot? It is not designed for that, it's sort of like cruise control and should be turned on once you are up and running.

3. Does the port Tab have a considerably shorter run of hydraulic tubing to the actuator than the starboard? If so that is why it is faster. The installations instructions call for the tubing to be equal lengths. It would likely help (but maybe not completely cure) if you could install the same length of tubing to that side (put a coil in it with wire ties if need be).

thanks much for your quick reply tom !

1. its cross wired , right knob moves left tab.
2. i have to admit yes . i turn it on which results it raises both tabs until it times out , then i go on plane with the system engaged. but i tried to switch it on while on plane with the same result - it overreacts and tries to solve the problem by lowering the opposite tab and vice versa until both tabs deployed manouver the boat in bow steering and listing.
3. yes it has. the pump sits port side and the tubing is much shorter. here it seems searay messed it up - the whole system is factory installed.

to understand the system : does it give a fixed tab input and waits what happens or is a continous monitoring where it judges the amount of tab input needed to level the boat ? it tends to lean the boat to stb - maybe because the port tab is faster ?

best regards

That could be.

The system detects a deviation from the zero point and corrects. It "looks" at how the boat reacts to that input and corrects the amount and time between subsequent corrections based on that. It continues to modify the time between and amount of tab movement depending how the boat is responding as you drive along.

The first thing I would do would be to add tubing to the port side to make it equal and go from there.

Oh, does the boat pretty much stay level if you set the tabs 'by hand"?

yes , by hand i can level it pretty nice , so the tabs and pump work without any issue . thats good news since i do not need atc that much .

the hydraulic tube - is it benett specific ? i would have to look where to get parts in germany.

when i understand you correct the system has some self learning , anytime when underway or with the system activated ?

It is best to use Bennett parts. You will need the nut and ferrule compression fittings as well as the tubing.
