ATC Installation Tips?

Thanks Mike,

I suspect that the Keypad is faulty, but I want to confirm with the factory. and then we can arrange a warranty replacement.

Tom

Mike,

I just heard back from the factory, here is what they said;

Tom,

I think that the client has one or both ends off the ATC Keypad Cable plugged in wrong, since it is possible to plug each end of the cable four different ways with only one of them being correct. Ask him to verify that the clips on the ATC Keypad Cable are positioned correctly at each end; at the Keypad the clip is towards the top and at the ATC Control Unit the clip will be facing the Port side of the vessel (180 degrees away from the white label).

Take a look and let me know what you find.

Tom

Well Tom, I think that did it. The connection at the control unit wasn't right. However, I can't swear that everything is fixed yet. The blue light still didn't blink as the directions describe, the red light at the top came on and I could hear the tabs doing something. So I held the sun and moon in for a few seconds, the blue light came on and then went off.

So like I said, I think that fixed it, but it's now pouring rain here so I won't be able to actually test everything tonight. Hopefully tomorrow evening I'll be able to go for a ride. I let you know for sure, but in the meantime, thanks for the help!

Mike

Very good Mike!

When you hold the set zero (sun and moon at the same time for 4 seconds) the blue lit will blink, then turn off when you release the buttons. When you release the buttons that is when the zero point is set.

I will be standing by!

Tom

Finally took a test ride tonight and everything seems perfect! Looking forward to tomorrow when I'll have more people onboard and probably windier conditions as well. That'll be a better test but I'm impressed so far! Thanks for the help Tom!

Sounds Great Mike!

You have to have people move around and see how the ATC reacts. It's really fun!

I am delighted I could help.

Let me know how it goes tomorrow!

Tom

You are gonna love it. I installed it on my 330 where it's just nice to have. It would have been fantastic on my last boat which was a 21 degree deadrise 25ft which was so tricky with tabs.

Well...all in all, I like it. However with my boat, it seems to be very sensitive to where I have the motor trimmed. At least, that's what I think is happening. Unfortunately, my trim sensor on the motor is not working right now. When I have the boat hauled at the end of the season I'll get that fixed. But in the meantime, it makes it difficult to get the motor trimmed consistently in the same place. I'm trimming it by feel and when I was adjusting tabs manually, that was ok. But now that the ATC is trying to trim the boat back to a fixed setting, if I don't have the motor in the same place, then it tries to adjust for that. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Does that make sense?

Yes that makes sense. Until you haul and fix the sensor I would suggest resetting the zero point with the bow up a degree or two more. This will prevent the bow from being too far down and causing the boat to bow steer making the steering squirrelly.

I'm running into a similar issue?

I installed them over the winter and just finished the install a few weeks back. i can control the tabs just the indicater isnt doing anything? I cant get it to stop flashing.
I hit both buttons than wait and bring tabs all the way down than up. it keeps flashing and never sets???

thanks

Saverio,

Do you mean the Auto Tab Control does not stop flashing? Or is a Tab Position Indicator is not working? You do not move the Tabs when setting the Auto Tab Control. This thread is about the Auto Tab Control so I am a bit confused by what you might have.

If it is the indicator is it the standalone one or the one with the built in controls? I need to know that to troubleshoot and review the calibration procedure.

Let me know and we can go from there.

I bought the kit that retofits into ur exsiting tabs

it tells you where the tabs are and has auto retract when powered down

that works fine.
its when i use the tabs the side indacators dont stop flashing. I tried setting them a couple of times

Saverio,

Thanks for the info!

Did you install them yourself? If so you did insert the rods into the actuators right?

Also check where the red and green wires plug into the white relay box back by the pump and make sure the connections are good there.

When you go to calibrate the system is is important to start with both Trim Tabs fully up. Hold both bottom buttons for about 15 seconds to insure they are up (this will not hurt the system).

Then push both the sun and moon buttons (firmly) at the same time for about 5 seconds. The bottom yellow arrow lights should then start flashing.

Let go of the buttons and run both Trim Tabs all the way down by holding both top buttons at the same time. It is very important to hold the buttons a long time (at least 15 seconds or so) until the top arrows start flashing.

At that point run both Tabs all the way up by holding both bottom buttons (again for a long time / at least 15 seconds).

At that point all 4 yellow arrows will light up indicating it is calibrated.

A lot of folks do not hold both the sun and moon buttons down at the same time long enough to start the bottom yellow arrows flashing, starting the calibration sequence. Also it is very important to run the Tabs up and down for at least 15 seconds.

Follow-up feedback.... I think I'm getting this dialed in a little better with adjusting the trim on the motor. This past weekend, the system worked perfectly. In fact, my brother-in-law who drives the boat often but has always struggled mightily with adjusting the tabs to level out the boat....he called the system "life changing". :)

has anyone hooked up a bennett atc to a sea ray 2007 or newer with the intergrated push buton pads with the emi mod if so will please call me and let me know how yu did it tom 1 978 518 5252
