Asian Carp in Lake Michigan!

Yeah, I saw that this morning. The face of the lake has changed forever gentlemen. Don't mean to be Mr. Dommsday, but this will be impossible to stop.
 
As far as this being the end of the world as we know it, it's a bit premature in my opinion to come to that conclusion.

Lake Calumet is not a very large body of water so why doesn't Chicago or whomever has jurisdiction over it use the same fish poison the Corp did to kill all the fish in the lake?
 
I'm going back to the old idea and taking the ore locks out of the dinghy and mounting baseball bats and Oh, yes we will be wearing our Packer helmuts. This might get fun!

Since the State governments are totally incompetent and untrustworthy, by default I trust the Feds more and IL is close to bankrupt so the money has to come from somewhere. :huh:

The "Asian" in "Asian Carp Czar" refers to the species of fish he is reponsible for eradicating i.e. Asian Carp, not his ethnicity. I guess you folks in the Big Apple are a little bit out of touch with what's going on here in the Heartland!:smt021

Just because he's Asian doesn't mean he knows how to kill the Carp. Might know how to make good Sushi out of it for all we know. Maybe that Obama fellow is smarter than we thought...

I love how Obama can just come up with a number and say here you go here's 80mil have fun. I’m sure a lot of Chicago Democrats that know nothing about the problem will get a job with the study group and in the end nothing will be done because the study group will run out of money.
Doesn’t Czar mean I can do anything I want with out asking anyone?

 
Okay dumb question. If they are already in the lake like the OP said isn't closing the lock kind of like closing the barn door after the horse has already left? What are they going to do with the 80 Million????

They have found Asian Carp DNA not Asian Carp in Lake Michigan. They found 1 dead Asian Carp in Lake Calumet which is adjacent to the lake. But it was later determined it had lived there so long it voted in Chicago elections where live or dead creature votes are all counted the same.:grin: I heard that the $80 million is to sponsor several episodes of Iron Chef on the Food Channel to develop receipes that will get folks to eat them to extinction.:smt043

No... We're aware of it. Its a sad situation. We just got a little sidetracked by the Czar's race. :huh:
 
Well a week ago I was out on the dinghy in Lake Macatawa (Holland) late at night with a buddy just cruising around and while going through the channel had a fish of some kind dive bomb the side of the boat and scared the crap out of us...once out onto Lake Michigan we saw 4-5 very large fish jump into the air while driving near them. I know enough about the native species to know that this is not "normal" behavior and can only wonder what it is that we saw...drinks had almost nothing to do with it. Very strange fish behavior.
 
Its salmon season and all the 4yr olds are in the process of ascending the rivers to spawn. To adjust their air bladders, they often jump out of the water. That's what you probably saw

Time to go fishing!
 
Eventhough I posted a video of Asian Carp jumping in the Illinois River, I have yet to see any large fish jump out of the water in over 50 hours of boating on the Illinois and Des Plaines Rivers since August of last year. Since I am down river from the electric barrier behind the Lockport lock, I should see a lot them but haven't. Doesn't mean they are not there, I just haven't seen any large ones flying out of the water. I have seen 5 or 6 small fish pop out of the water, over this period of time but I could not determine if they were Asian Carp or not.
