I'm not kidding!!! It took me an hour to go round The World Island  ....

You don't really see much from the boat, I was maybe 100 meters from the rip-rap at 55 ft depth..... there is only one that has been built (a private club) and there is construction going on at the Scandinavian Island, I could see mature trees and other stuff; but it will take a few more years until this becomes a proper tourist attraction. But something is coming up really well..... the Dubai Canal; soon we will be able to cross the city by boat with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops on the side.

That project is crazy but amazing! I saw a television special on the building of Palm Island and others a few years back. I would be hard pressed to invest in an island made of sand pumped from the sea floor. I hope it works out for them...

Jimmy, you live and boat in a VERY interesting area. That area has a lot to offer now and in a decade it will be spectacular.

Thanks for sharing your circumnavigation with us!

Thanks for that shot!! I was in AUH and DXB last year and had a good time, was wishing I had a chance to get on the water while there!

Well Bark, give me a shout next time you're here.... lots of places to visit and I am normally in town.

Yes, you have said it, amazing experience to live over here. Our Sheikh's vision is spectacular. His wishes are orders, all is built super fast and at high standards.

Ken, that was our first impression when we came here for the first time 15 years ago and The Palm was on paper.... but 15 years later it looks as solid as rock and holding $10 million dollar mansions. See some pics below.

You are not actually allowed to sail between the fronds.... the reason behind this is privacy.... you don't want to pay millions for a mansion that will be disturbed by visitors in their boats...

Very neat!

Very Interesting!

Thanks for sharing!

Very cool, thanks for the photos. What is the water temp? Do you have many areas where you can anchor for the day or night?

Water temp now is just perfect, maybe 80, but the tough times come from June to Sep where it is HOT. People normally anchor near the trunk of the palm or they go to Abu-Dhabi where there are great island and mangroves to anchor , fish, BBQ, etc. There is another island 35 miles away from shore called Half Moon ( because of its shape) but I am not sure if I want to go on my own (one engine only)

Great documentary, hadn't seen it. Sadly the banking crisis delayed the end result but I'm sure it will one day look as planned originally.

I love the U.A.E. My company has an office in the Dubai Business Bay, a few blocks from the Burj Khalifa, and right on the new city waterway that you mentioned. I visit at least twice a year and look forward to it every time.

Here is a view of the waterway from the backside of my office.
