are these anodes too far gone?

haha ok ok i know they are bad. let me rephrase... is there a way to replace these anodes other than replacing the whole cylinder? cylinders are fine. anodes, not so much:)

On the bravo 3, The anodes are held on by 2 small bolts, maybe an 8mm head on them.

Chip away at whats left, and maybe you can grab onto the bolt and twist it out.

It’s my understanding that anodes are only doing their job until about half of the material is gone. Not sure of the reasoning but seems to be the talk around here. Anyone else?

Surface area and time are factors. As the anode wears and gets smaller, there is less surface area and therefore less protection.

Also, if they are 50% worn after 1 season, they won't make it through the next season

Go easy on those bolts when you take them out, lots of penetrating fluid and tap tap tap lightly to break the threads lose, or you will snap it off and good luck getting it out, I had one snapped off under my prop and it is a real pain, needless to say the easy out tip that broke off when I was trying to get the stud out is staying in there forever

Those pictures hurt my eyes!

If I were you, I would also be thinking through removing the cylinders, drilling out the remnants of the anode bolts, and retapping the holes. Not going to be fun, but if all goes well, it won't be an expensive fix. Note that this job is very easy to screw up and you're not going to find a marine mechanic that will do this nowadays as they are too busy to screw around with drilling out bolts and using a tap and die set. It is very likely that you will be having to buy new cylinders.

thanks all... a miracle happened and i got the anodes off and bolts out. i just have to hope i can attach new ones... Thanks!
