Aquapalooza Fairview beach, VA

I was wondering, for those of you that have been before. My Refrig won't work on 12V anymore, and ice only lasts for so long. How do you keep food and drink cold without running the genny? With that many people all jammed into one area, do people run them?

This may be as bad as putting a portable generator on the swim platform, but there are coolers that run on 12V and you can plug into a 12V receptacle to keep the stuff cold longer. Target sells them. Don't know how big or how good they are.

My brother has one, they do work, but takes hours to get it cool. I may borrow it from him. I don't know that I have a cigarette lighter plug anywhere, and thats what it uses.

Of course I'm coming. We haven't missed one since they started. As I mentioned in the other thread.....we will be rafted in deeper water this year and using the RIB to cruise around.

Last year we were part of a large raft up in front of the stage which turned into a drunk fest at night complete with fist fights and shoving. It didn't quiet down until 3am. We left early on Sunday which was a real pain to get the boat out of a raft up with all the fore and aft anchor lines deployed. We were lucky and got out of there before a big squall hit and wrecked a lot of boats. The water is shallow close to the stage and the bottom is sand.

It should be a great time....the weather forecast looks good.

Last I looked there was a small chance of rain. Still not bad enough to keep me away. I will probably look for you, because I don't want to get locked up in a huge group of boats and not be able to get out. I'm also not a fan of the jetskiers and drunks. Even on a regular weekend there are alot of idiots there. If I find you can I join in? Are you going to be with others, or by yourself?

Hi,

I hope everyone who made it to Aquapalooza had a great time and either got out or stayed safe during the evening thunderstorms.

We arrived relatively late (2:30) and left around 7:30 when we could see storms to the Northwest. After a faster than usual run home, we made it to the no wake zone on the Occoquan before being pelted by rain and dodging lightning. I was very happy that we weren't still rafted to the 5 boats we were tied to earlier in the day.

As others have described previous events, there were lots of crazy drunks, but we were relatively far out and the shenanigans were minimal. It was a great time for us.

Mike, did you see 6-7 boats all rafted up behind you? A sedan bridge Carver with a red 340 Sea Ray next to it? I believe I was right behind you. Didn't see PlayDate, Redhook or Spikedaddy. I took I look around for CSR Burgees, but there were way too many boats. We stayed far out and ended up getting caught in the storm just before I got back. See other post about my engine probs. Anyone have any pics??

Redhook and I were tied up together, straight out front of Tims where the taxi's landed. We had a great time until the storm. We both got little dipsh#$ts stuck in our anchor lines as they tried to leave. Rich had to cut his line free, we finally got the idiot off me with quite a bit of gouges to my hull. Worst bit was the anchor line ripping the heel off of my buddies foot. 25 stitches later, we learned a few hard lessons about letting other people anchor up too close to our bow anchors for comfort. Rich and I both felt "leery" about it sat morning, but tried to be the nice guy. It was our1st overnighter in the new boat, so obviously I have a bad taste in my mouth about the weekend. We had a great time to that point. I'll try to post some pics later this week. If you have a strong stomach, I'll even put my buddies foot.

Once we got the drifting open bow free and my buddy off the hospital, we tied the boat up to mine (aren't I a saint?) so it wouldn't damage anyone else. When he finally showed up after 11 to get his boat, he didn't even apologize. SSOOOO, I will now make the proper reports and let my attorney and insurance deal with it.

The bright spot after the storm??? This morning when weakly trying to find Redhooks anchor in the slight remote chance, I found him a better Fortress anchor. So he wins. I think my damage is all cosmetic.

We got there at 10am on Saturday and had anchored alone about a 100 yards in front of the stage. I had anchors out fore and aft. Once we were set we took the dinghy in and had a great time....for a while. After a few hours I made another run to check on the boat and found a 18' speed boat under my anchor line. She had slipped her anchor and had lifted mine while rubbing on the hull. Of course the owners were nowhere to be found. The worst part was since my bow anchor was loose we were drifitng toward another raftup.

Fortunately, we got things sorted out and the police found the speed boat owners and they got their boat sorted out with no damage to either boat. I was really uncomfortable with the boats and rafts which were next to me so I moved a mile from the stage and anchored. When the storm hit, we just watched the mayhem and listened to channel 16 and all the distress calls. The weather was nasty.

We had a good time but the it comes at a price. We burned 140 gallons of gas to get there and back. It was a beautiful ride down and back.

Mike, you could probably start a business with all the anchors you could find there.

Sorry to hear about all the near (or real) disasters. We anchored out almost at the last groups. I believe we were the farthest out raft-up just east of the stage. About 7:30 when the storm was about too hit 3-3 4 bigger boats anchored up side by side farther out from me. None of us wanted to get stuck in the mess, so we stayed far enough out and broke up as soon as Nanjemoy fire came by and told us the storm was on it's way (6:15) Aquapalooza Fairview is cursed! As soon as I assure that my port engine isn't damaged maybe we could set up a get together with all the Potomac folks. Might be a good one for next year. I wasn't ready when the Solomons trip was discussed, and still haven't gone that far yet.

I'm surprised that there haven't been any press articles on the event. A number of open boats (Sundeck style) got swamped by the waves. We heard that there were multiple injuries including a women who got crushed between a couple of boats during the storm.

It was a blast, up until the storm hit. Mike and I had one of the best spots in the place and for the most part, everything went off without a hitch, until, (drum roll please), the storm hit. I do think Fairview is cursed when it comes to Aquapalooza though.

But it was worth it. I can't thank Mike and Tara enough for the good time we all had out there. They have a beautiful boat and are a top-notch couple. Luckily the damage to his boat is cosmetic (but that's still bad to).

As Mike previously reported, I had to cut my anchor when it got sucked up into a prop on a little Bayliner. We were both out in the river the next morning at appx 0700 looking for it. He found a big FX-23 Fortress for me, and that took the sting off a little. It's to big for my anchor rollers though so I have to figure something else out.

Maybe the same Aqualpalooze crowd on here wants to come out to Colonial Beach for Dog Days of August? It's a blast, and you wont have to worry about storms and dip-sh!ts in Bayliner wrecking a good time.

We had a great time at the event as well. We anchored alone as our friends did not make which was fortunate when the storm hit. We weathered the storm at anchor and fended off other boat that drifted dangerously close. I was pleased how well the sundeck handled the storm. I had put the bow cover on just before the rain and it helped as some of the waves broke over the bow. My wife is not a fan of lightning so we left during the lull in the storm upon hearing of more storms (with lightning) coming down Potomac Creek. As we reached Aquia Creek the fireworks started. Oh well, we'll catch them next year again.

Rich, we had a blast too despite the damage. Jason and his crew were great to be tied to.

I started a new thread and posted a link to the pics. I think we may be convinced to come to Colonial Beach in Aug. Send me the date. M

I would be interested in making it down to Colonial Beach as well. I was just south in Maddox Creek for the 4th and it's closer to me than Fairview. This all depends on the status of my port engine. Glad to hear everyone made it through the storm safely. I made it just past Nanjemoy Creek to marker 6 when I got the full brunt of the storm. This was when I had to creep back with only SB engine. I heard yesterday that at my marina they had the sheriffs there because people at the ramps were getting into fights trying to get their boats out of the water. Good day to be able to pull right into my slip!

Wilee,

I think we were right by you. Our raftup had me next to a red early 90's Chris Craft cuddy, and at the other end of our row was a tan canvas Maxum 2500 with a big raft and a jet ski tied off of it. My boat has the blue canvas and obviously our name. We got down to the boat and I realized that I had forgotten our CSR burgee, so I wasn't flying it.

If I have any pictures I can post, I'll put them in the other thread.

Hello,

We were in the raft-up with the red Sea Ray and the Fortress anchor belongs to us. We had some idiot go-fast boats cut both our anchor lines and we spent two hours searching for it on Sunday morning. We found the Sea Ray's anchor, but not ours. We would really appreciate getting it back.

I joined this forum solely for the purpose of retrieving our anchor. They are very expensive to replace. Can you sent a private message how we can retrieve our anchor? Thank you very much!!!

I have had several inquiries about this anchor. Can you verify your location at Tims, the line used and how much chain the anchor had? I have no problem giving it back to the rightful owner. I to lost a Fortress. Did you happen to find another?

Facing Tim's, we were rafted to the right of the restaurant with several other boats. Beside us was a 340 Sea Ray with a red canvas. We have a flybridge with black canvas. Our boat had pirate streamers all over the bow and tiki stuff in the back with lights. The rope was 3 strand, half inch with less than two feet of chain because our Windlass is not a chain gypsy.

We only found one anchor and it belonged to the Sea Ray rafted beside us.

Our friend who owns the 340 Sea Ray is also asking you about this anchor on our behalf. So, we are both searching for the same anchor. Thanks.
