AppleTV anyone?

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I spent WAY too much time on the phone with Comcast/xfinity yesterday and I ended up cutting my service, got rid of a bunch of channels that I don't care about anyway. Now I'm down to $135/mo for TV and internet. Better. But I think that's just the first step. I'm not worried about the TV shows, I know I can watch them via AppleTV/FireTV/Hulu, etc. I'm concerned about the live TV and sports. In the morning, waking up and putting on the local news to see if school is cancelled for the kids, and to see what the weather will be for the day. I also worry about watching baseball games in the summer, and Thursday night football, MNF, etc. In spring, March Madness college basketball, etc. I live in a remote area, and I'm not sure about how well an off-air antenna will work.

Regarding baseball, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if I signed up for MLB.TV, I will be blacked out of my local teams games (really the only ones I want to watch). Is that correct?

Geez...I thought we had it bad here.
I pay $70 pm for unlimited ADSL and phone line and all calls.
Foxtel (cable) for a complete package is around $100pm., we canned it several years ago......but.
I really watch very little tv, the only thing I follow with any passion is car racing
Last year at the start of the year, Fox signed the V8 Supercars, our Australian top level car racing.
No problem, I still have F1...until the first race came up and it wasn't on, quick search....yep Foxtel.....ah well I enjoy the Moto GP, motorbikes....they signed that too.!
And the different streaming services, not allowed to stream into Australia.
Oh and NASCAR, well Foxtel has had that for years.
Now the crunch, basic Foxtel package, $25pm for 20 channels no one watches....Sport $50pm because you have to take the crap as well.

And yes, just signed up to Foxtel

Like you, OTA signals aren't possible and I would miss my local news and weather. Apple TV has the Watch ESPN app and I can watch all of my college football. The NFL app on my phone allows some pro football. The major network apps allow me to watch their shows, but haven't figured out the local news and weather yet.

regarding school cancellation. You get that from a TV station? We got a text and an phone call when school was cancelled. I would still prefer to just look it up on the internet. I do it on my schedule not theirs and it is much faster.

There is a site that where you can choose your IP Address to look like it's coming from so when you sign up for MLB or NFL channels you will get your local stuff. My friend who's overseas does this since the NFL site won't let you sign up if your outside the USA.

I'd research a bit better on the local channel thing. It's got a lot better since rabbit ears w tin foil days. With the right antenna and amp you'll pick up everything. Buy it from Amazon so you can return for free and refund if it don't work. My local stations come on clearer then they did with cable.
