Didn’t see a place for boating apps and so forth, so I figured I’d share here. Thought I’d share my latest boating Apple Watch face for those using an Apple Watch. Takes a bunch of apps to get all this info in one place! Top right temp from the phone weather app. Middle right is wind speed and direction from phone weather app, middle left is swell height and direction from surf watch app, bottom circle is rain forecast from weather app and. Bottom right is tide info from ocean watch app. Bottom left is sunrise/sunset from the phone world clock. Still hoping that someone will create an ocean temp complication one of these days. Here is a link to a boating apps group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/614651365925860/?ref=share

That is pretty cool! Will probably take me about 8 hours to figure out how to replicate something like that on mine.....

I saw your post last week then couldn’t find it again.

This is a great watchface, I’ll also be spending several hours trying to set this up.

What watch face is that based upon, might have to buy a new watch, too many complications for my second gen watch... another upgrade...

This is based on the Infograph faces. I think they are available on the watch 3 and higher. I’m using a 4.

Thanks, I found it, I believe it’s 4 and up according to Apple’s documentation, my next one will be the 6 or higher, unless this one dies before then!

Resurrecting a semi-old post. Anyone have thoughts on Apple Watch vs something more boating-specific like a Garmin Quatix?

For one thing, the Garmin has integrations with their nav systems - you can control the MFD and autopilot from the watch. Not sure this is useful enough to beat out an Apple Watch on balance for utility.

I found an app that looks pretty cool (second photo ) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wilhelmsk/id1150499484
but you need to add some hardware for it to work correctly don’t think it’s worth it just to have on the watch. It includes Raymarine control, fusion control, etc. if you bluetooth music to your fusion using an iphone you can use the watch for volume I think play/pause also .
I’ve made a few watch faces mostly boat weather related I also made one to open the Frunk/ trunk on the Tesla

I am using my apple watch more and more with the boat. I have a face set up that shows wind speed an direction, current speed and direction, ocean temperature, tide times, sunrise/sunset, etc. I like clicking on the screen quickly just before anchoring or docking to check the tide or wind without any fuss. Also being connected to the iphone and ipad I use for navigation, I can get alerted on my phone if there's a vessel view alert, etc. And well, I can check the time!

I was wondering if you are still using your ipad for navigation?

My main plotter is my iPad. My old plotter is my backup and use it mainly for radar.

Clearly you must be happy with them. Which model ipads are you using? Built in gps or do you external gps? Mount system? And last navigation app.
Looking to update electronics over the winter,
Thanks for your help, much appreciated speaking to someone in the know.

I use an iPad Pro LTE as my main plotter with Navionics as my navigation app. I also use boat beacon for AIS, which integrates with navionics, and I have a Ray marine wi-fish fish finder that also integrates with navionics. All of this can he replicated on my wife’s iPad if mine fails, or either of our iPhones. As a last resort I have my old plotter that I mainly use for radar, but I do keep the maps current.

Tks very much. You have helped me make a decision. I will leave my current Ray Marine chart plotter as is and go with a new ipad for navigation. Again tks for your help and all the best and good health in 2021.

It’s not the perfect set up, but it definitely works for what I need. In the ideal world I’d have a couple of plotters that integrate with all systems on the boat. But we are talking thousands instead of hundreds, so not yet!

I am using a first gen iPad Pro 12.9”, WiFi only, so I purchased a 100$ Garmin Glo (via bluetoooth provides gps).
I did go ahead and update my old north star to a simrad NSS EVO3 9”, but I use these in tandem, iPad for navigation, NSS for nav, radar and depth. Navionics maps, and it is tied to my Simrad, so the depth data on my Simrad updates my iPads charts in real-time.
I just purchased a new iPhone and watch, (and a new steering wheel!!), so now I am off to imitate the watch setup above!

The main thing I typically use the watch for on the boat is volume adjustments to the stereo. Put the stereo close to max volume, then use Bluetooth to connect the phone (leave the phone near the cockpit) for music, then use the crown to adjust volume up/down from anywhere, in the water, on the bow, etc.
