Apalachicola Seafood Festival!

Hey Guys!! Just found this site. Looking forward to seeing our Shell Island friends in Apalach. We'll be at Water Street Marina. Do you know yet what time your heading over??

Hey guys..........

I've got a couple of folding motor bikes I'd like to sell. They make short work of the trip to town from either marina.

I hate to part with them but my wife is so uncoordinated that she is going to kill herself if I let her ride one.

They have 4 stroke Robin engines and have about 10 hours on them. Shoot me a PM or email if you have an interest.

Great to see you aboard! I just told Mike Little about this place a couple of weeks ago. Maybe he'll show up too.

We're heading out early Fri AM. See you there!

Spent 3 hours in the Gulf this AM kitesurfing at St Andrews Park. There were 6 - 8 kites flying around.
Spent 2 hours yesterday afternoon in the Sound inside of Shell Isle. Jumped the U-shaped island about 6 times - big smile : )

God Bless.

For you guys going to Apalachicola from the Panama City area, be aware that the recent rains and high water have caused a lot of trash and driftwood to be dislodged. We saw and had to dodge a lot of it in the ICW from the Gulf Co Canal to Apalach. Try to go on the outside to Port St. Joe then up the canal to the ICW which will save the trash and driftwood issue from PC to St. Joe, besides, its about 30 minutes quicker.

Also, the area between G11-9 and R10-12 daymarks in Lake Wimico is very shallow now. Stay in the absolute center of the marked channel and you have 9'........get slightly out of the center and depths go to 3'-4' quickly.

Fuel is $2.95 for gas or diesel at Scipio Creek, so go over full or empty, depending upon the price where you usually fuel up.

Have a great weekend..........Apalachicola is one of the undiscovered pearls of our region. Enjoy it!

Great words. Will heed. Hoping to go out/in. We usually do if the weather allows. My parents will be with us. Hope to see an Eagle or two.

I'll post some photos tomorrow. We all got up and got around this morning, no rhyme or reason. My wife and I watched sunrise from the dinghy, then had my parents join us on the boat for a 4-course breakfast, then we packed up and headed out.

After a little over 2 hours in the inter-coastal, we had accidentally formed an 8 boat chain as we entered East Bay out of PCB. Aarrh & Aarrh was leading the way with me in 2nd, then several other Sea Rays. Coincidentally, we passed 2 trawlers with friends aboard to add to the chain. It was a beautiful sight.

Battening down. Apalachicola Sea Food Fest: The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My parents stayed in the Gibson Inn, an historic 3-story hotel in the heart of Apalach with wide, covered porches all the way around, a nice bar up front, and a beautiful restaurant. It was taken over by nice, but loud, local rednecks and Harley drivers. http://www.gibsoninn.com/

The parade features 4 local firetrucks from surrounding townships, little pre-school princes and princesses from pageants riding on the hoods of highly modified Mercedes, BMWs, Impalas, and SUVs, some teenage beauty queens, a religious youth group on a big hay-hawler dancing to clean tunes, a couple of marching bands, some local politicians, and a couple of pirate floats. There was a large group of Harley riders circling around and racing back and forth. There were a couple of Shriners in go-carts. You get the idea - very local and homey.

At the festival, there is a mid-size traveling carnival with rides to spin you around and turn you upside down. There are a lot of tents selling hats, local art, clothes, real-estate... There are several booths with sea food - some under tents, some out of trailers. We ate some gator on a stick.

Back at the Marina - that's where it's at. The marina gave us a few bags of oysters Friday. Doug made and brought an oyster shucking machine. One guy shucked while Doug cooked 'em up on the grill with cheese in the half shell. They were awesome while hot. We had a bon fire every night. People came and went all day long. My wife and I used the dinghy for 3 or 4 round trips down town. They have a floating dock for dinghy's in the middle of town now - that was really nice. It beats tying up to a shrimp boat and climbing out under a pier somewhere.

The town is a very quaint, usually quiet sea-side town that relies highly on oysters and other fishing. There are beautiful Victorian homes, awesome restaurants, and some very neat shops to pick around in (from what I remember - my Dad and I had a cigar at the hotel while the ladies shopped). It's a small town bordered on one side by the Scipio Creek and Apalachicola river (they merge on the East Side) and the sound inside of St George island to the South. The West is mostly trees, and the North is Swamp/Creek.

We enjoy it. We have taken our 340 4 times now, 3 times during the Fest.

Lightweight and clean, performance is really good. Minimum tide if any, 14.5 gph per side, 27 mph, 3250 RPM. This is with 3/8 fuel, 1/4 water, 1/2 holding, and lots and lots of bags, and 2 adults.

That's some good living.

Maybe Ida will wash most of the trip grunge out of the cracks and crevices for you.

Now the NWS/NHC is telling us that we will get her remnants back down here by Friday. Now I know for sure I'll have to cut St. Augustine twice before Thanksgiving.
