Anyone want to talk about old cars or cars in general?

There are four cars in the coral these days....none are interesting....'99 Isuzu trooper, 2001 Chevy malibu, 2004 Caddy Seville SLS and 2005 Kia Sorrento......

Wife and I are looking to trade the Caddy right now....we're looking at the Infinit M, Mercedes E and BMW 5 series. What I really want is the new Z06...

Infiniti M45's are really real nice :) I got a G35 the year before the M's came out and wish I had waited cause I'd rather have an M now but my old 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT with 130,000+ miles would of need some work to last another year I think. So when I wear out this G35 I'll get an M I think unless there is something else out that I really want.

Dom...........the new 2008 "regular" C6 is quite a performer too with the new LS3 436 HP engine. Motor Trend has a road test on it in their current issue. 4.1 second 0-60 and 12.5 second quarter mile times are not too shabby. Then again you could hold out for the "Blue Devil".

I really like the G35 too. That's the problem with todays cars.........there are just way too many nice ones to choose from. Kind of like boats except my wallet won't let me do what I really want to there. :smt043

The 735 - I don't think I'll be modifying this one ( for the reasons above (time, $, and a garage) but it already runs GREAT. You put your foot in it, it responds. My next car may be an M5 though...

I understand how that goes, haven't had a garage in almost a year, and boy do I miss it!!

If you get bored google "TCD turbo". If nothing else you will get to see some beautifully kept/restored 70s/80s BMWs that will HAUL butt. I still plan on buying a late 80s 5 or 6 series with the 3.5 liter so I can slap on a turbo. If only time would outweight the projects!!

If anyone is interested, I will be listing several cars for sale within the next week for my boss. I know he has a dodge charger daytona with only 100 miles on it, a lotus, a fire bird, and several race cars all with full roll cages. He also has lots of parts for sale, but I wont know what all he wants to sell till I get there. I will list the links to the auctions when they are listed.

I also had a 1968 Firebird Formular 400 Convertible. It was Red with a black top and was worked to almost 500 HP. Full race cam Hurst 4 speed and all. Sold it in 74 for $2K when I got my first Company car a 74 Monte Carlo. The Fire Bird would sell at auction today for maybe 50 grand. Would love to have it back.
Today I still love cars and own a 2003 350Z, 2004 Lexus SC430 Hardtop/Convertible,and a 2007 Acura RL.
Good thing I don't have a passion for planes.

I'm liking this thread...

An earlier post mentioned Datsun Z cars. In the late 70's, two buddies and mine were heavy into Datsuns.

I had a '65 Fairlady roadster that had steel, hand built wheel opening flairs and front air dam, a 196 hp 2 liter motor with solex carbs and a big cam. One of my pals had a '71 240Z in british racing green, the other had a tricked out '70 510 2 door with all of the Datsun comp suspension. Lots of fun.

Earlier I'd had a '40 and then a '39 Chev, a '55 2 door post, and a Hemi orange 1970 Dodge Dart with a 340 and 4 speed.

These days, it's a '69 Super Bee. It's all correct and stock, and I have the broadcast sheet to confirm that, except I built a 440 for it. With 4.56 gears and slicks it went 11.95 @ 114.57. I have 3.23 gear in it now and street tires, which is much more fun to run around with.

Here's a couple of photos-

Dave,

I just watched the Leno video with the '66 Coronet. I really like that guy. You get the feeling that you could sit around and drink a few beers with him and he'd be cool. He's into the stuff, genuinely.

My car drives like a truck- no power steering or brakes, just a bunch of motor. I drive it a lot, and it runs down the highway nicely, no pulling or problems at all. Drove it to Bakersfield CA once and it ran 75 - 80 mph just fine.

Hey thanks for starting this thread! Getting to mix boats AND cars- wow!

OK, I finally took time to read this thread. My babys for winter play are a 1951 Pontiac Chieftain straight 8; a 1958 Pontiac Super Chief with a 370 ci V8 and a big old AFB helping it such air and fuel; and a 1965 Pontiac catalina with a 389 and the old dependable AFB. The shame of it all is only the 58 gets any road time anymore. I did a complete frame on rebuild of the 51. The 58 was a barn find, no rust but 22 years of bird poop on it. They are great fun.

Here are photos of the older girls.

That 58 is beautiful! I had a 68 Chevelle Malibu 2dr, bought it new when I got out of the service. I kept it until a few years ago. I always liked the looks of it, some designs just are timeless.

Gotta love the old girls....I remember when my (7 year older than me ) brother wrapped his 58 triple black Impala around a traffic light on Broadway in Bayonne, NJ.....man was my Mom mad....no one got hurt.....ecept for the light pole....

This was in the late 60's , might have even been 1970 and that 58 was just.....well.....an old car back then.....My brother went pit and got a loan to buy a nearly new 68 pontiac lemans....no fancy stuff, but still a nice car...

Walt,

I like your Pontiacs a lot. My dad had a '54 2 door hardtop, straight eight and Hydramatic four speed automatic. As you know, it was a flathead design. It didn't have a lot of power, but once it was up to freeway speeds it would hold it just fine. It was a really smooth running motor, incredibly so.

A good friend had a beautifully restored triple black '66 GTO convertible a dozen years ago. The '66 is one of my favorite cars, and this one had the original 389 with tri-power and a 4 speed. It was a show winner in bigger venues, such as the Portland Roadster Show. He needed to sell it to raise cash for some business problems and I just didn't have the money. It went for $26,000 as I recall. This was in about 1997, and was a screaming deal at the time, but still a lot of dough. In hindsight, what an investment.

Nope, I'm not just all about Mopars, l like them all.

Keep 'em coming. This is fun!

Thanks for sharing,

John

Dave,
The one under the cover was another 51 that I sold to buy the 65.

John,
the one I regret letting go of was a 1948 Packard 2200. it was powered by a 327ci straight 8, three speed on the tree with overdrive. Pure power!!
