anyone try one of these

No, haven't used one (although I've used metal cages on smaller OB's in the past). But... my concern would be the damage it may cause to the drive (I didn't read through the whole website, so maybe it's built with key "break points" to possibly avoid damage). But, for now, what I envision as a possibility is that if you hit an object, the shock is now transferred to the upper attachment point - which could cause unrepairable damage to the drive.

If you're worried about people getting "chewed" up by the prop, that should never happen since the engine should always be off if people are in the water.

Sounds like BS to me. There is no way I'm drilling into the skeg. Also, take a look at their graphs and speed data, not too impressive.

Would not go that way, Simple solution "people in water" motor off. Just that simple. I am sure it will not protect prop strikes with hard objects such as logs and rocks.

from what i understood of the graphs was no loss on top speed and actually a little better through the middle
i understand no motor while people in the water...but i have heard of people cutting themselves badly jumping too close or slipping and falling on top of prop...i havent found anyone who has actually used one and when i looked to order one it said not for use on boats with speeds over 25mph...which makes it useless for me and makes the testing make no sense, because they were in the 40mph top speed range...

i don't know...
