Know when to hold them!!!! We will all meet at Marker One Marina on the end dock, near the Dockmasters office on April 12th between 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. We will have a total of 7 stops, which includes Registration and the last stop, where we will have the ending party. There will be plenty of clues and surprises, so be prepared. Call or email Serina Konomos at (727)536-2628 Ext. 10515 or serina.konomos@marinemax.com

This could be fun, whether it be with my boat or if I tag along with someone else (hint hint, I'll bring some food, drinks, boat dollars for gas and the camera) specially for anyone that Marker 1 is their home.

We're camping that weekend on Allatoona...but I will be down your way next weekend...planning on hitting the Pier at ST Petes...

what exactly is a poker run?

:wow: basically you will start at Marker 1 where registration is and you probably get a playing card there and clues to the next destination. You boat over to the next destination and get another playing card and you keep doing this until you get to the last destination.

Once you get to the end you let them know what your poker hand is and the person with the best hand win's. There will be a party at the end as well from 2pm to 4pm

They need to know by middle of next week your boat and how many people on board will be attending. They said the notice went out late. Once you register you will get more info by mail.

poker runs are normally for go fast boats. MM needs to put more details on their site to make folks want to attend.

Well I emailed them and it's only for customers of MM. I was thinking of going with a friend on their boat (not a searay) and when I asked they said only customers from mm can use their boats but they can bring whoever.

Didn't sound like a go fast thing, I asked our sales guy and he said it's a pretty short route and I would have plenty of gas said not more then 10 miles he thought.

I would think if it was considered a race MM would have a lot of liability problems if boats started crashing into each other trying to "Race" to each location.

Nice thing is the person with all the info won't be back into the office till Tuesday so there is no way to get any information about it till then.

Additionally it's a poker run it's who as the best hand at the end is who wins not who gets their first.

We went on the MM Poker Run last November and there were a lot of bigger boats out there just cruising to each stop. We had 4 stops to pick up one card then the last stop was where we started to get our final card. MM gave us a map with directions and info. You could use the map, GPS and also call MM on the VHF if you couldn't find a boat. All the cards were sealed in an envelope. MM called out your name and then they were the ones who tore open the sealed envelope to see your hand. Best hand won of course but there were prizes for 3 hands. I won second and got an Extreme Heater. Lots of fun and there wasn't much of a time limit. I'm not sure about only MM customers tho.

This sounds like fun. I need to check with the boss and make sure that she hasn't booked us on something. Since we will probably be in the water that weekend anyway... Morpheus, I know that we haven't met but you and your family (provided its not the Brady Bunch!) are more than welcome to join.

Ride on a smaller boat then my own? :wow:

Just kidding, thanks for the invite we are trying to decide what we want to do (2.5-3 hr drive to go get the boat and then we gotta take it back since we don't currently have storage here in Tampa) It would be just the Wife and I (we have no kids). I'll run it by her and see what she thinks.

I just signed up, Serina was at Marine Max this afternoon. We are ready to go. It should be a lot of fun. Figuring I would have been out there aimlessly burning fuel, I may as well have some direction to go!!! It'll be my wife and I.

It begins at Marker One Marina and ends at The Island Way Grill with five stops in between.

Just got my packet yesterday. Looks like there are 18 boats signed up - from 185 to 300+. The majority are 220s and 240s. There will be a water ballon contest throughout the day. The head of the service department will be cruising around the intercoastal on a well marked MM boat wearing a tshirt with a target on it. Your mission, should you accept, is to interdict the vessel and pummel the captain. But be warned, he will be firing back as well!! Arrrgghhhh!!!!

Sounds like a lot of fun still havn't decided if we will go yet.

All right, the Poker Run was a success - at least I think so. Looked like there were about 20 or so boats out there starting between 10 and 11. But let me tell you, we ran pretty hard most of the day, starting around 10 and finishing around 2:30. I was loaded up with a crew of three, a full cooler of beer and Jello shots to start the day.

First stop and check in was at Marker One Marina. For those that do not know, it is located at the beginning of the Dunedin Causeway. We checked in and picked up our goody bag. Some water baloons, t-shirts, clues for each of the stops and our first card.

Next stop was Caledesi Island. Nice easy cruise from Marker One. From here we headed to the Dunedin Reef. Now I have never been to the reef, so as we headed out of Hurricane Pass we were following a 240 figuring they knew where they were going. They slowed down a little and waited for us. Yes, we were both clueless. We chatted for a few minutes and offered up some Jello shots and decided to head west based on the map we had.

We made it to the reef and pissed off a few anglers as we worked our way through the boating crowd to find the MM boat. You would have figured that there would have been a large MM flag or Sea Ray flag flying... No. We looked for boats that did not hav fishing poles. No. Finally, after fifteen minutes we found the boat and picked up our card.

Next stop was the Tarpon Springs boat ramp. A pretty good haul. So before starting out, it was time to break the seal. Please note that stepping onto the transom after consuming several Jello shots and two beers before 11 in three foot swells is not advised. Yes, into the drink I went. :smt100 Lost my Oakley Juliet's. 30 feet down. :smt013

After being fished from the drink by a very ammused crew we headed into Tarpon Springs. Picked up our card and headed for the next spot - Three Rooker Bar. There we were attacked with Super Soakers and water balloons by the kids on board after obtaining our card. The last stop out in the water was Mark One of the Clearwater channel. From there it was into the Island Way Grill.

We got to the Grill with a full hours - 7s over 3s. I felt pretty good. The winning hand was four 6s. Yeah, I think someone was asking for cards. You couldn't trade cards (as we did at the beginning of the day but had to trade back) because each stop had a different design on each of their decks.

All in all it was good fun. I have a fair amoutn of pics and some video, however, I need to do a little recovery on my electronics. More on that in a different post.

John

Sounds like a lot of fun, wish I could have made it.

man, that's a lot of ground to cover. glad i didn't go - 3 rooker scares me due to depth (or lack thereof).

Yeah, it was a ton of ground to cover. The stop at Three Rooker was off the sand bar about a hundred yards. stayed pretty deep there - around five feet. That and we were moving into high tide.
