Yeeeee, haaaa! That's all I can say. Solid, short-frequency three footers rolling down the Bay... we took some water up on the bridge (thank God the windows were closed... seemed like going through a car wash sometimes!), but other than that we survived the trip from Baltimore back to Rock Hall unscathed. My brother made the crossing in his 320 and did fine, he just had to go a little slower. We ran at "Cruise 1" which is about 21 knots. Also, the tide was really low and I probably had less than a foot of water under the wheels crossing Swan Point bar!

Anyone else out there?

Down here in the southern bay (not that sissy boy narrow bay stuff north of Baltimore  ), we had 8-10 footers with a gale warning and a storm warning at the entrance of the bay.... It's always fun to take the boat out on a windy day like you did and get some spray over the bridge. Good practice and keeps us humble. Glad your safe. Find any leaks?

Didn’t go out Sunday but got caught in St. Michaels late Saturday evening with the cold front moving in much sooner than the dang forecast indicated. We had to make the run back to the narrows with seven people and two dogs aboard in rapidly deteriorating conditions. Some moderate rain with 2 to 3 foot chop and wind gusting about 20 to 25 or so. Thankfully nobody lost their lunch of crabs and beer.

If not for the courage of the fearless crew……………….

BTW, can you recommend a spot to tie up for the day when we cruise across the Chester to Rock Hall?

Oh man... you just brought back some bad memories of the time I took 8 kids down to Norfolk and they all filled up on crab legs for lunch and on the way home my son got sea sick and lost it and then.... they all lost it.... 8 vomiting crab kids... the smell... mmmm....

Only minor leaks in the bridge windows which I never expected to be fully water tight under those wind-blown conditions. In fact, the Admiral bought this rather large ornamental shell which she placed on top of the fridge... in my haste to prep the boat for the trip I forgot to take it down. Thank God it was still in place when we got to Rock Hall.

Sure... if you're only staying for the day, there is a first come-first served public bulkhead in the harbor. If the wind is piping out of the SW it can be a tough spot though. Waterman's will let you hang for a good while if you eat there and it isn't too crowded. Rock Hall Landing may offer a day rate.

Also, I agree that the weatherman blew the forecast for Saturday. We had a Cinco-de-Derby/Christening Party in Baltimore and the weather crapped out just as the party was getting started. The kids had fun though:

We just completed a 3 day, 470 mile trip from Washington, DC to New York city on my father-in-laws 02 420AC. We were on the Bay most of the day on Wednesday May 11. Stopped in Annapolis for the night. We were on the Delaware Bay part of the day on Thursday and in the ocean all day on Friday. Here are some pics of our adventure and the crazy fog:

Speaking of crab! The Blue Crab in Little Creek in Norfolk has a great lobster omelot and other brunch item, good food all together.

You know its bad enough dealing with the fog and the waves in the bay, but to hop scotch around the atlantic avoiding timber sucks. well I hit a good one an hour out of Cape May around 1 pm today and got hauled out to take a look. no damage, but by 4 pm we called it a day. 3 other boats were hauled as well today at the same marina all hitting lumber. It seems we saw wood along VA,MD and NJ

It seems like there is always some type of lumber hanging around down here "just below the water line". I have hit a whole dock section about 2 miles off of Lynnhaven Inlet and it is a sick feeling to hear a thud and turn around and see pilings and planks coming up in your wake. I have never even scratched the paint on my bottom but I have bent a few props. Good idea to carry spares. It is really bad in the ICW down jus below Great Bridge locks.... all kinds of trees and stumps breaking free in that area.

There was a Viking convertible off shore a few years back that hit one of those big shipping containers they put on ocean crossing ships. It was just below the water line... he got it home... that makes for a bad day.

Dave:

What marina are you at in Jersey? Glad to hear you had no damage.

If your schedule permits, hang for a couple more days and pull into Atlantic City this Saturday. There are 25 Sea Rays (weather permitting) scheduled for a MarineMax day-a-away at Trump Plaza/Farley State Marina.

Hi Dom, I'm at the Canyon Club. I'm coming in sat night, and plan leave sunday morning. If I do I will give a shout as I approach A.C. Weather, time and timing will dictate a quick visit and hello. I will have the kids.
It wood be nice to meet you guys.

Dave

Dave:

We are not overnighting at Atlantic City....just a day trip. I'll have my handheld on all day Sunday monitoring ch. 9. As go North, just past the Barnegat Inlet, give a shout.....I should be at the home dock if you run into any issues....

safe trip...
