Got in a discussion with another boater about Sea Ray's and when they stopped using wood in their 18-23' sport boats and couldn't give a definate answer and guessed about 1996? How close am I?

I am pretty sure wood is still used in almost every boat Sea Ray builds today. For instance, in most of the decking on a Sundancer, you will find wood is used for strength. However, it's encapsulated in fiberglass so you don't see it. On smaller Sea Rays, such as the 240SD the same is true. Wood is used in several areas of the decking as well. I know this from my own experience with my previous 240SD. Generally speaking though there is no wood used in the hull itself of the smaller sport boats.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can be more specific.

Thanks all. Yes the Sea Ray's in question were the smaller sport boats and after poking around on Sea Ray's website I believe that year for all fibreglass decks may be 1997. I will call them on Monday and try to get an answer.

Any response from Sea Ray... wondering if my 99 210 has wood decking or it's fiberglass under the carpet.

I spoke to Sea Ray about my 1994 200OV outboard last year. The vertical bulkheads under the rear bench are bilgekote painted marine ply. The large section removable over the fuel tank is 2 layers of 1/2" painted marine ply, and just ahead of that is the in floor cooler, which is 3 layers of 1/2" bilgekote painted marine ply. Rest of the deck is fiberglass encapsulated.
