Has anyone here ever wholesaled a boat in order to "move up" ? I'm telling myself it's not the right thing to do, but the opportunity for the "next boat" is to good right now.....thoughts. Obviously I could try to sell the boat for about 30 thousand dollars more in my pocket....if it sells, but the other boat may become unavailable.

I kinda did. I was moving from Virginia to South Carolina. Sold house and "wholesaled" the 300DA back to the dealer I bought it from just to get rid of its costs right away. I probably lost $15K in a true sale had I listed it myself. But house sold for more than I expected so bottom line of all sales was still above plan. So quick liquidation of the boat was a better situation for me at the time rather than listing it and keeping it slipped in an area I was no longer living. Plus I had no loan on the boat to try to cover.

Some times the means justify the ends.
I imagine you will enjoy the new yacht way more than you’ll miss the 30 grand!
Carpe Diem!

Carpediem......I agree. Probably a poor "business" decision but a great "life is too short" decision!

If you cannot afford to purchase the "next upgrade" without selling current one first...yeah it all depends on your hunger for the "next upgrade", and if you're willing to take the financial hit to get it "now".

Can apply to many things in life..say you want to move, and you see a home hit the market you really want, and you haven't sold your current home yet...do you slash your listing price on the current home?

I envision we will be in the same situation after 1x more year with this boat...we'll be wanting a large one, see a nice 37 or 40 come on the market, and we won't want to "sit" on our current boat trying to sell it at a typical cost...we'll probably try to sell it dirt cheap. I see too many boats sit on the market year after year...same boat..slowly slowly dropping in price every several months..but still for sale.

We had 2 boats once. The 28 footer I kept for 2 years after we got this boat. In the end the market for 28 foots was bad at the time I paid 25K for the boat originally put 20K into it. Listed it for 29K. Sat in a yard for 2 years and owner of yard offered me 12K I took it. There is not always a buyer. As the old saying goes "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush"

Not that I'm glad that others have struggled with this, its comforting to know I'm not alone.

I traded in my 340DA when I bought my 400DB. They gave me the wholesale price on the trade.... but I really wanted the 400DB.

When I bought my Amberjack I was able to trade my previous boat in. I've had two boats with one for sale before and even though it worked out alright it added stress to my life. Yes, trading it in meant taking a lower (wholesale) amount for it (even when you take our inflated 13% sales tax into effect) but that's only if you are able to sell your old boat quickly and at the desired price. We all know how that goes...
