450 DA Sundancer running CAT 3126
Been boating nearly 30 years.

Have never flown a burgee.

Seems like something that would "fit" my 1996 450 Sundancer, plus I'd easily tell wind direction as I come into a dock.

What size burgee would you fly from a 51' 8" LOA Dancer with an aircraft carrier forward deck?

Any particular staff recommendations?

If available, I think I'd fly a CSR Burgee to show my addiction to this Forum.

We fly a burgee when in harbors especially when preparing to dock. Admiral puts it up when she heads to the bow to set up the bow line(s). We have several of them and she chooses which one to fly. Ours is a quick and simple click in. Very nice aide when docking. Comes down when cruising, too much wind tears them up too fast. Our pic at right has it up as we put it in for this pic while cruising. Should probably get a CSR, they are just a bit pricey. Will eventually get it though.

This'll replace the faded Sea Ray burgee that is on the bow.

The Burgee's are really nice and seem very well made.

We fly our local Power Squadron burgee, which is the standard size, I think about 15" or so long. The bow rail on our 56' Princess has a factory setup to fly a burgee, so that makes it easy. We used to fly it on our 330DA (since sold), which did not, so we used the Swiveler. http://originalswiveler.com/. It works well, and you can order plastic connectors that make it virtually silent. Lots of people on here seem to like it.

We fly our Yacht club burgee, mainly when visiting other yacht club owned or operated marinas as it is mandatory for visitors. I often forget to stow it or knot it and it really makes a lot of noise when the wind rattles the fastening hardware.

We always fly the gold looper burgee and sometimes another under it. Keep it covered when not at the boat or don’t want to go through the exercise of putting it up and taking it down, the sun will wash it out in no time. Our CSR burgee was shot after 2 seasons.

This burgee cover that she sewed up using cheap fabric store “sunbrella” used to be black, but keeps the burgee like new.

Use zip ties to attach them to the burgee staff or burgee loops on the bow rail instead of the usual metal split rings if you go the “leave it up route”, they will be silent in a breeze at night, but will of course flap and slap in a fierce wind. Then use the cover or as others have said.

One tip is to have a piece of Velcro handy to wrap it up when not needed. The noise from it drove me nuts at night.
I do that also when safely tied up at a marina. When at anchor, I leave it flying so it will wake me up if a strong wind blows through. I don't set an anchor alarm, I use my burgee to warn me. :)

I like the PVC pipe idea, I have to replace my yacht club burgee about every 3 years because it gets faded and torn, that would definitely help that problem.

You guys are fancy. I have the one that Sea Ray put below the top bow rail. Its noisy as all hell even with zip ties.

We fly our CIYC burgee when we are in Avalon and our American Legion burgee everywhere else. It is noisy at night when we are on the hook, so I either take it down or use one of the Admiral's hair ties to keep it from flapping.
