Anyone Buying a Boat in this Mess

We had the boat on the market with eyes on the next one that popped up locally. After loosing essentially what we would be putting into the next boat deal we put on the binders. We love our 44DB and changing boats always brings some level of stress and the last thing we need in our lives is more stress! We are just going to count our selves lucky to be among the 1%ers and enjoy the blessings we have. There will always be another opportunity to move up. Lets just hope things calm down and get better before they get worse.
Carpe Diem

We were on the fence but now I’ll hold on for a year or two. I will be upgrading the dinghy to new Highfield 340 with 25hp and new Garmin electronics in the 420DA. That’s enough boating bucks for now.

I am buying right now, $230k but no change in the rates (4%) and no change in price. Seems the boating market is staying relatively flat.
I spoke with my boat finance guy the other day about interest rates. He said the recreational boat rates take some time to change after other rates, but they should be coming down shortly.

My wife said something about moving up to a 37' model and I've been poking around at that. Current events make that less likely but still possible. If the rates come down a lot I'll at least refinance.

I am both in and on the market, not deterred yet. There was some thought of buying if we found the right buy before the current boat sold until a few weeks ago when our new budget started growing!

Also hoping interest rates will drop a bit, but they are already quite low so not really something that will move the needle for us.

Well schools in my area just closed until April 13th. I'm guessing boat sales may suffer a bit.

I bought two boats at your Allentown show years ago...you guys are very persuasive ...Glad to hear you're doing well
Boy, that's a blast from the past! That show was absolutely crazy for us - boats sold like hotcakes there.

What boats did you buy?

240 Sundeck and 2005 260 Sundancer...that's how long ago. Where is the show now?

That was probably about the last year that we did that one - other vendors started dropping out as their sales weren't as good. We know do the Philly show - which was originally in the Philly convention center right in the city... pain in the butt to get boats in there! Now it's the "Greater" Phill show in Oaks, PA.

Those were (are) great boats. That 240SD was like the SUV of boats - it did everything! They still sell crazy fast on the used market. It's amazing to think back to what they sold for then, compared to now

240SD was a 2004 we came back the next year and bought the 260DA ...had it a year and got transferred to Indianapolis...sold it to a guy at Lake of the Ozarks for what I paid for it 3 years earlier less the trailer... I sold the trailer for $5k to Boatland the Searay dealer in Indy... Those boats owed me nothing.

Yes I spoke to my guy about that too and he said the same exact thing, Chris Stevens at Sterling Associates. I am thinking that the rates won't drop much, though, due to the massive infusion of federal funds into the financial system.

As they say in the trading arena...buy 'em when they're cryin', sell 'em when they're yellin'. If it's in your budget the best time to buy is a weak economy. Problem is if you have to sell or trade then you are likely to get bottom dollar for your old boat too. If boat rates come down enough I may refinance. I'm at about 6% which was about the best I could find when we bought this one.

Got one under contract...but that was before all this mess!

Well after having a few boats sold out from under me last year (yeah, I can't make a decision), I hoping things slow down in my market and prices soften a bit.

I closed on a construction loan a few weeks ago with a low rate. With that said, I'm slightly worried this could affect selling my existing home. I have about 6 months or so to sell before the new one is completed. We shall see.

I'm hoping in 6 months this will be a blip on the radar. Certainly going to leave a mark though.

I hear ya! I planned on selling the house before the summer since most families will want to get in before the school year. Crossing fingers!

Good luck with the sale.

With recent stock market 'corrections' the market bounced back as fast as it dropped but this one is a little deeper than we are used to. Usually it's 10-20% but we were at about 30% yesterday so this one is a little different. Hopefully we have a nice slow, steady recovery. A sharp bounce back likely won't be as stable. We have also had a few market 'circuit breaker' trips this week. We haven't seen that in a long time and 7% in todays market is alot more than 7% 10 years ago when the market was much lower. Oddly they halted futures trading at about 8:30 this morning when the market was up over 1000 pts. I had never seen them halt it when it was rising.
